Wonder dog is a Koolie Kelpie cross.
I’m Caity. I like cooking, reading, and I have aged parents, one of whom has dementia. My family are in Adelaide, Australia. I live in South East Queensland, Australia.
That’s what you’re in for.

I don’t often remember my dreams. Last night I had one where I was trying to escape from a red bellied black snake about to bite me one side, and another snake (eastern brown, I think) about to bite me on the other side, and.. well, I don’t think that requires a whole hella lot interpretations, do you?
Just as well I’m booked in to see my psychologist very soon, given the whole family situation and everything.

Home. First cuppa tea consumed. It's raining here! Sorry, , I really tried to do my best with the rain! Hoping the sore throat is and and not the spicy cough, because parents refuse to wear masks. Wonderdog sang me the welcome song of her people ("Aroooooo! AROOO roo roo!") which is reserved for special occasions, and I think I'm going to bed, and partner snoozing too. Thank you, MastoFam, for your love and support, you lot are brilliant.

Mentioned to Mum I was worried about Dad crossing the road by himself. “He’s crossed it thousands of times. If something happens, someone will find his phone and call.”
Right, the phone that will also be smashed into a million pieces by the same giant semi trailer on the very busy road? Or the same fast SUV that he stepped in front of? I didn’t say any of that. I have to just let it be. Let it be, let them have dignity of risk.

So tired, can't sleep. Barely stopped Dad from stepping in front of a fast car today on a busy road, going to the shops. He won't cross at the damn traffic lights. #CaityTrip

Okay, I get that not everybody cares about history. I am now starting to worry if Mum is also getting #Alzheimers though - she suggested that when they downsized the house, she was just going to THROW MY GRANDPARENTS MEDALS OUT. Both Grandfathers were incredibly proud of their war service. I have worked in military history, and have been speaking about getting her Mother’s and Aunt’s Medals…and I just organised the Anzac Medallion for her Grandfather. WTAF? Also…1/2

#BadDaughter #BadSIL tried to suggest January celebration for Parent’s 60th Wedding Anniversary instead, which Mum would have been happy with. SIL texted back that “She is busy every weekend in January.”
Ooookaaaaaay then.
And Mum has booked my Uber for Thursday morning (because it’s the first flight out, and I need to leave the house Nice and Early)
So I guess I know where I stand. #CaityTrip

And Today the became the as well, when I tried to organise my next visit, which needed to incorporate a trip to Canberra, for a friend’s big birthday - and I REALLY wanted to help Mum & Dad have a nice 60th Wedding Anniversary. In late December. Picked a date, booked flights, didn’t consult SIL - now I’ve been iced out by SIl, because date doesn’t work for her. Feel like utter crap. and Mum is disappointed and now saying “we might not even make it to December.”

Hey Toots. Long day. Went with SIL to optometrist this am, Mum now has new glasses after eye test. Mum refused to buy needed prescription sunnies (even though specsavers do 2 pairs for $249) and I am wondering what other financial things are slipping. I made casserole for family lunch tomorrow - its apparently WRONG and too much (5 for lunch though). Mopped kitchen floor (did not use right water temperature. It's a TILED floor.) Skyfairy preserve me, I'm doing my best. #BadDaughter #CaityTrip

I am NOT helping make lunch today. I am letting Dad do it on his own, because “We are all out of routine because of your visit” said Mum, and that’s why Dad is sick. I am a Bad Daughter. #CaityTrip

Other pastry delights at this morning, what would you have chosen? SIL had the fruit Danish with the Broulee meringue on top, and said it was delicious! Mum and I had . Dad and brother were bought Cornetto Allan Mandorla - very much like an almond croissant.

More pastries at Italian deli Mercato this morning. These are various Danishes.

Also, Wonderdog was very clingy and anxious before I left. Wouldn't let me move anywhere by myself. Last time I disappeared was to hospital and I came back smelling all wrong and changed, then disappeared again for another week... I don't think she's forgiven partner for losing me that time! #CaityTrip

@anathema_device I hope so - she's already being extra spoilt.

Arvo, Toots! Well, the day has arrived when I have to pack for my trip. Which means that instead of my usual lazy running in about in creased and crumpled shirts, I actually have to drag out the ironing board and iron them. What a bother! Wonderdog is already not feeling well (her senior dog arthritis is playing up badly) and she is quite upset at the idea of suitcase, backpack, and losing Mum. Oh dear!

caity,

@anathema_device Thanks. I hate leaving when she’s not well. But I know partner will look after her.

Aaaaand right before bedtime I learned the private mental health hospital run by my psychiatrist has "suddenly collapsed." Which could mean no more psychiatrist or mental health nurse.
Great.
Trying NOT to think about this right before I travel.

Picked up the lovely French trio again and delivered them to the concert hall. It was dusk so the cockies were deafening, which amused them no end. Looking forward to hearing them do Beethoven tonight, once I've wrangled all the nannas in and out of the lift.

@MarkAsser @sister_ratched My Sister never held a driver’s license her entire life. She apparently rode a moped in Taipei for a while, but gave that up, citing most people’s casual observation of the “traffic suggestions” rather than road rules. Very sensible.
She did sometimes sneakily drive one of the ferries in Sydney Harbour very early in the morning, one her way home from her Post Office sorting job, early on - but we won’t tell anyone that the ferry driver let her do that, will we?
