After posting that the house would have to stay messy, that all I could do right now was my swan impersonation (grace on top, frantic paddling underneath) - we had a minor kitchen disaster (during a Zoom call, of course!), which has meant that I am in mid process of washing Every Single Piece of china we own, pie dishes, casseroles, teapots, tea cups, included. All packed into one open shelved, below bench cupboard. Ya gotta laugh! 🤣🤣

Alright, making something healthy for dinner even though I would rather just have cheese or something.

We don't have any cheese is the issue.

@frogglin No… cheese?

Wot, me, stressed? Nah, I wasn’t the one bursting into tears when the receptionists at the #Dentist told me I was there for a “periclean” appointment (I had psyched myself up for my routine 3 month clean, polish, fluoride- 3 months because #Sjogrens) - I ended up saying through tears “I’m autistic, please don’t suddenly spring changes on me.” Turns out it was the new dentist (mine’s on mat leave) saving me money through the system. And everyone was very kind. Might be #stress, eh?

Saw my tortie sitting in the corner of the bedroom this morning, but she was unmoved by gentle calls to ‘my baby’ and my ‘psssh psssh’ noises. I got up and went over to pat her, and found I had been attempting to woo a pair of shoes :)

Arvo, Toots. Very stressed. Day two of trying to wrangle new phone. Arrgh! Data transfer last night didn’t work, my own fault - I started it too late, after a bad day, and then my old phone went into “Sleep” mode and interrupted! Feeling totally techno incompetent. Partner now helping by copying old memory card across to a new, bigger memory card. At least I have a working phone again, but I’m still trying to navigate it. Worst feeling!

@caity@bne.social avatar

@anathema_device Thanks. It’s been a very stressful day.

Last boosted toot: my brother’s border collie was being minded by good friends, while brother and SIL had to go away for a week. Friends had a lovely pool. Border Collie immediately leapt into pool, and joyfully started swimming laps, resisting all calls to come out, no matter what blandishments were offered. 30 laps later, he was eventually hauled out, still resisting, and protesting that he had plenty of swim left! (He was allowed supervised swims after that. Funny doggo!)

Oh my dears, I have had such a tedious day.

10.40-eye test. Optometrist not happy with my vision, glasses will not fix. Referral to specialist 😬
11.50-attend dentist to have prep for crown, temporary cap fitted
12.20-actually see dentist. Things go wrong at all possible points
13.50-released from dentist clutches, pay lots of money as deposit for even more money. Escapes to go swimming
14.50-leaves pool
15.50 - Arrives home #exhausted. 25 min trip takes 1 hour. Traffic insane. need 🥃

caity,
@caity@bne.social avatar

@anathema_device Oh noes, what a day! Hope the specialist can do something to help. And then to have an expensive (and troublesome) dentist visit on the same day!
And Traffic!

You definitely need Drinks … and Chocolate!

#SmallVictories: Well, Toots - I have had a washing basket full of books, removed from my bookshelf next to my chair before my #Mastectomy surgery back in September, sitting in the way, unsorted, since then. Today I cleared the last of it, and cleaned the basket!

Arvo Toots - My approx 4 year old phone is about to die - it keeps getting hot while charging, even though all its diagnostics say it’s fine. I need a cheapish phone (less than $500, buying outright) and I don’t need a whizz bang camera or anything - just ok for snaps, but I do need to hear - and I need to be able to put a case and hard screen on it, because I’m clumsy. Anyone got recs? I’d prefer not to go Samsung again, has anyone tried ?

caity,
@caity@bne.social avatar

@anathema_device I looked at replacing the battery - but given the phone is a few years old, I may be at the point of running out of security updates for it very soon. Toying with the idea of going back to a “Dumb phone” but feel that someone in the household should probably have a smartphone, given how many applications seem to insist on it…and partner already has to have a dumb phone, for reasons.

29 minute phone call. This time the human at StarTrack checked the scan on the #Pakkige and acknowledged that it hadn’t even been put on the truck for delivery today. FFS!!! It was set for an URGENT ETA tomorrow, and I’m meant to get a call back in the morning.
Stay tuned for more #PakkigeSaga!

Today’s #History research #Rabbithole: #CycleCars! Thanks to a helpful and prompt response from one of the curators at the National Motor Museum at #Birdwood in South Australia, I might have a lead on a very odd light car owned by my family company in 1920/21, and the only one of it’s type I can find mentioned or registered. It’s a Bloomfield 8.10 Cycle Car. The Rabbithole is - possible tenuous link to #Hupmobile, who did also make cyclecars in that period. Fascinating!

Arvo, Toots! Well, Mum phoned with exciting news - the Commemorative Medallion just arrived in the post! I helped her apply for this 7 months ago. Her Grandfather was at Lone Pine in 1915, had his thumb shot off, and was left permanently deaf in one ear. After spending time in hospital in England, he was back home in 1916, and married in Woollahra in Sydney- and then lost all his medals and memorabilia in a house fire at Yass. I’ve found so much documentation, Mum knew none of this!

Reverse of the Anzac medallion. Bronze medallion, crown st the top, leaves below. Australia, New Zealand, and the Southern Cross depicted in the middle.
