In my youth I was a far left, antiwar "turn on, tune in, drop out" hippie (#woodstock69). Now I'm an old hippie who no longer turns on or drop outs but still antiwar and pro whatever loving lifestyle anyone chooses.

I'm cis married for 45 years with a lifelong vegetarian son and wonderful granddaughter.

We live on a 118 acre farm in the hills of the NY Finger Lakes region where we grow tree nuts and fruit.

My reason for moving: When Trump got in, I said to Mr. Laffy, "He'll now have the courts. We can't overcome a lot of that." This is what I was referring to:

Climate change is going to bankrupt the U.S. and make large parts of the world unlivable including places in the U.S. if our progress isn’t at the very least upheld.

Trump is the biggest threat in the U.S. to the health of the planet and life on it. Anyone who doubts it now won’t in 2025.

For dealing with climate change it’ll be game over. We are already out of second chances

I don’t have dark skies anymore, but if you do, and have clear skies, keep an eye on the night this weekend. A G3/G4 solar storm is predicted this weekend. That could spark Aurora all the way down to the southern US.

In 1968, massive campus protests against the Vietnam war spread to the Democratic national convention in Chicago that year, which became a violent confrontation between protesters and police. The result was the election of Republican Richard Nixon, who enormously escalated the war, including the invasion and mass bombing of Cambodia.

I was a member of the Vietnam war protesters back then and was so excited when Johnson declared he wouldn't run for another term. I saw it as a victory. Unfortunately, my view was too narrow. I was only seeing the horrors and illegality of the war not thinking about the next election. Big mistake.

I continued to protest the war but not to get involved in a politically positive way to move the country to a more fairer and kinder place. I guess I thought my positive vibes would, along with millions of others, would get us there. Of course it didn't. We ended up with Nixon.

No candidate is perfect and our system needs some serious tweaks. We cannot allow Biden to lose this election as Trump would bring about even more disaster than Nixon.

@GottaLaff Last time we moved was 21 years ago after living in the same place for 17 years. We packed everything ourselves and we had 2 yard sales and numerous trips to the goodwill type places.

We still have about 6 boxes of stuff in our basement that we haven't opened in 21 years!

Something like 75%-80% of Democratic voters support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, including a strong majority of Jewish and Muslim Democrats, but the Biden administration and many Congressional Democrats could apparently care less, and that small pro-genocide minority stridently insist Biden is under no obligation to listen to the Democratic majority even if it may cost him "the most important election of our lives" against Trump.

@gwynnion I believe that our representatives and senators don't really care why the people want. They only want what will get them reelected. Once in office it is ridiculously difficult to lose their job. Also, most of them live in a bubble.

@Free_Press Years ago I went to the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg. There are wonderful works of art there but the building itself was poorly maintained. Also the paintings were in crappy little rooms hung on the walls with just smeared glass panels over them. I was very disappointed.

I visited with a friend's parents there and the building they were in was so dilapidated and dark that I was concerned about walking up the stairs. Their apartment was beautiful though.

@CosmicTrigger okay, I got it. I had to look up sealioning before I responded to you earlier as I never heard that term before.

The reason I think it makes sense to provide citing is that it also makes things easier for someone just browsing to see if this info is from a source they trust (especially if they don't know the poster). That's my feeling anyway.
