    How does everyone know how, when and how much they're masking?
    As a late-diagnosed , I struggle to differentiate between "me but masking" and "me but in a diff situation".
    Now that I know I'm autistic, I even miss the person I used to be in some situations before I knew.
    I used to call myself a "social chameleon" - I just changed automatically to suit the circumstances.
    But who actually am I and what is just a mask?

    Maybe it's all you, and you adjust your behavior, language, and demeanor to whatever is appropriate to time and place. That's what all social animals do, from dogs to naked mole rats to humans.

    You're still more like the rest of us than you are different. If you don't feel that way, it's due to the way the of the rest of us have focused on the differences to the exclusion of the similarities.

    I taught eighth-grade algebra from August, 1986 through June, 2021. The kids were all just kids, no better or worse that I was in 1972, and their parents were pretty much the same as well.

    I spent Thursday in the paleo lab prepping this mammoth mandible. It's sitting on the bench bottom side up. Images 2 and 3 show the teeth. Image 4 is just a few of the random fragments I need to place.

    My computer failed tonight, and I lost the entire hard drive. Fortunately, I have everything doubly backed up: once on a local hard drive and once on a cloud service. It's still stressful, but it could be a lot worse.

    Backup, backup, backup! I have a second drive installed as a backup that gets updated every day, and two more plug-in drives that I alternate; one is local while the other is stored off-site. I have stuff from my TRS-80 mod 1 when backups were on audio tape. Never lost anything in over forty years.

    Everything you say may well be true, but the vast majority of Christians are not standing up and telling their pastors "That's not the Jesus I believe in." The vast majority of Christian pastors aren't standing up in public spaces and saying "That pastor doesn't know the Jesus I know." The vast majority if Christians aren't saying in public "I don't know that Jesus." The vast majority of Christians agree with or remain silent, and silence means assent.

    If you're a third-party to an incident, and repeatedly bring up that incident in an attempt to claim allyship, and try to make it about trans vs cis gender identities, then you're participating in tokenisation of trans-ness.

    Trans people can do wrong, just like cis people, and as a third-party to a conflict you may not have all the information, or may only have part of the story which may agree with your own perspectives or moral compass or biases.

    I have trans friends and I have a wife and two daughters, but somehow, that just doesn't help me understand what it feels like to be female or trans. (I also can't get my head around what it's like to dream in Chinese, but I know that a billion people manage to do it.)

    All I've got is to believe what you say about your lived experience, to treat you as I'd like you to treat me, and to defend you politically and physically.

    I hope you have your tribe and your special people.
