Politico: GOP speakership now down to two: Emmer and Johnson

lakelady,

@GottaLaff Whew! at least my do-nothing insurrectionist rep (Bergman) is out of the running. I could probably stomach Emmer from what I've heard so far

Okay, you've all been very, very good, and very very kind and helpful with all your suggestions, so as a reward, and as promised, you get not one, but 2 (!!) pics of me when I was about 19 or 20. Because why the hell not.

Why you're interested is beyond me, I was just kidding around, but here they be:

Me, at around 19, standing in a shoe store in London, with long, long hair, wearing a ridiculously short mini skirt, trying on high, lace-up black boots as a bored salesgirl sits and stares off into space.

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@GottaLaff I remember having boots like that but mine were a bit taller and I could fold the top back down over the rest of the boots. My pirate boots. Loved them! Alas the days of me being able to wear heels that high are loooooong gone. Thanks for sharing

My dad, a dr., was an award-winning photographer, but would never take money for his work. He got his photos in National Geographic calendar and other places, won contests, etc, but wouldn’t take a dime.

I’m going through his photos (he took, developed them himself, start to finish), have to get rid of a ton bc we can’t take them to Canada, 100s of mounted 11x14s. I’ll share some soon.

& if you’re very very good, I’ll also share a pic of me at 19 that he took in London. 😊 Maybe even more.

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@GottaLaff if they're mounted you might consider keeping the ones you want and selling the rest online. Either for yourself or a fundraiser for the org of your choice

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@GottaLaff well that sucks :( I'm probably going to get to that point once my family settles on who wants what of my mother's artwork. Right now we have over 200 pieces in storage. Not looking forward to that :'(

Is there anyone who's reading this that has had shoulder replacement surgery? I'm beginning to consider it myself and would like to hear of other's experiences.

Ever get a really sore neck? Ice packs are instant relief in most cases. But they never conform to your neck, or they’re often big and clunky. This product is PERFECT. I’ve been wearing mine even when the neck pain in minimal. It’s stress relieving, too. And very inexpensive.

@shoq Also for neck issues check this out. I got one this summer and LOVE it!

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@shoq I plan on getting one. It will be good to have both options available.

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@shoq I realize that the shoulder pack is probably better for my needs. Neck is mostly sore from muscle knots from protecting my bad shoulder.

To all of you whose wonderful, kind, compassionate words and support have been so helpful, I have sad news: Father In Law passed away. Mr. Laffy just called in tears, but there was a small silver lining… FIL got his final wish and died peacefully in his sleep. That was so comforting for all of us. I can never thank you guys enough for your consistent caring and empathy. You’ve been beyond amazing. ❤️💔

lakelady,
@lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

@GottaLaff Give Mr. Laffy an extra hug from me, your average internet stranger. And help him stay hydrated, crying is dyhydrating you know. It's my standard weird advice to anyone navigating the grieving process. Good advice any time really.
So glad you made it home in time for his transition and that he got his final wish. Alas with all of that good it's still hard to lose a parent you care about.
❤️

I’m home (Calif). I’m unpacked. Mr. Laffy is with his dad who he said is weak but lucid and doing okay. We’ll be co-adopting his sweet dog Henry, who some of you may remember from photos I’ve shared. We take care of him a lot, but because we go back and forth to Canada, he’ll be with Mr. Laffy’s sister too, maybe permanently at some point. But everything has stabilized for now. Great thanks for helping me through the trip home & for all the empathy. ❤️

@GottaLaff glad to hear the good news. Time to exhale, relax - maybe with a nice hot bath - and get a good night's sleep. Glad everyone is safe and sound and where they need/want to be.

Just swell. HUGE traffic jam on the i5 south near the Grapevine for miles. Crawling. We need to get home to Father in law and left at 7 am to get home early. Now this. 😫😩🤬

@GottaLaff @oldredsubby I know the feeling. I drive x-country twice a year and hate I-80 but for a few states it's pretty much the only option, just like for you and the I-5.

No idea how I managed to live toot all that from the car. What a trick that was. We’re in the middle of nowhere on the 5 headed south, maybe 70 miles north of Harris Ranch. See you as news breaks. 👋🏼

    @dgoldsmith This search is a big step up, but opt-in, with very little effort to inform people they can do that, so very few people have. And it’s very slow to assimilate searchable content from smaller instances. The best discovery tools on Twitter were Lists. But lists here only work with people you follow. That’s only discovery within your existing filter bubble. Not what anyone seriously following news wants or needs.

    lakelady,
    @lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

    @shoq @dgoldsmith do you know if lists based on following hashtags is limited to only those you follow?

    My latest medical drama is a right knee that’s tricked-out again. Torn meniscus surgery about 3 years ago has gone south. I have an appt with a Cleveland Clinic knee specialist for a 2nd opinion. I used a well-known sports surgeon last time who turned out to be a Trumper-lite. Judgment issues?

    lakelady,
    @lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

    @shoq the other fun thing was it wasn't until I got an MRI for the meniscus surgery that I learned that I no longer had an ACL. Lived for probably 30 years without one before getting a new knee. Now it's like having the knee I had 30+ years ago. Lovin' it :)

    lakelady,
    @lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

    @shoq another hint - post surgery eat plenty of protein and vitamin C. Both needed for healing/rebuilding.

    @lakelady@mstdn.social avatar

    @shoq sorry two cocktails in tonight and I'm starting to ramble. Mea sorta culpa
