I just did my post-#PyConUS covid test and it came up negative. Sharing a sold-out conference with 2,500 people and not coming home with some bug is no small feat, and I'm glad that PyCon has a sensible mask policy (mask indoors, but not at meals or when speaking or taking photos).

We keep each other safe.

Why do I wear my mask at #PyConUs? TL;DR… kindness 💖

Why does mask == kindness? We have beloved folx in our community that have very serious reasons to not get sick. Some of us have immune disorders. Some of us have respiratory disease. Some of us have people @ home that we need to protect & if we get sick it means stress & isolation when we return.

It's not just COVID. Our faces are disease cannons and most of those diseases are equally sucky.

So join me in kindness and keep that mask on! 😷✨

What are people's preferred tools for virtual environment management these days? I specifically care about being able to have hundreds of different project folders each with their own environment

I've been using pipenv for years despite not using Pipfiles - what else should I be considering in 2024?

I want a maximum of one command (equivalent to "pipenv shell") that I have to run in a directory in order to activate the corresponding environment

I’m seeing a concerning trend of webpages that are designed for dark mode only. They present light-text-on-a-dark-background all the time. There is no light mode. No respecting the user’s preference.

I literally cannot read white text on dark backgrounds. At least not more than a few words worth. It’s weird to slowly have more and more of the web become unusable to me.

Do better.

It’s super easy to provide both. We should all provide both.

Feeling disappointed to find out that Volvo has retired all its non-SUV models in the UK.

They've historically been great at safety and practicality, and although I know the market demands SUVs it's disheartening that this will push even more people into them 😔.

I wrote it because I was troubled by some of the responses I have heard to the idea of a DjangoCon Africa -https://2023.djangocon.africa - in a country such as Tanzania.

It's right that questions about safety should be asked. But when they're asked, they must be answered consistently and fairly - and not used to damage or undermine African open-source software communities.

The Slack redesign breaks the most useful feature. In the old design, I can see at a glance which Slack teams have unread messages for me. In the new design, I can see that there are unread messages but I have to click to examine which teams those messages are on.
