Checked out the scotusblog livestream of Supreme Court opinions where lawyers explain decisions as they come out in realtime and it reminded me of 20 years ago, loading up MacRumors every January to read what was being said in untelevised apple keynotes, but instead of a new PowerBook or iMac, the stream is about which of our fundamental rights just got curtailed.

If anyone here has a tip for an easy workflow to export a LibreOffice Impress slides + speaker notes file into a single HTML page that's organized something like https://www.changeset.nyc/resources/quick-intro-to-grants.html (slides side-by-side with speaker notes), I'd love to know it. The default HTML exports, at least in LibreOffice 7.0.4.2, don't do what I want.

"ADHD creates impulse control issues and, consequently, advertising takes advantage of a disability. Ergo, ad blockers are assistive devices and interfering with their operation for commercial gain constitutes a willful violation of the ADA."

Let’s do this.

Business meetings exist to share information and coordinate activity: this shit enables you to be apparently present in all but actually not engaged with any. If your calendar is triple-booked then your organization is under-resourced and needs more people, not more AI. Or it's holding unnecessary meetings to make management feel better about being surrounded by minions, in which case it needs to fire the executives responsible.

@cstross Back in 1993, I talked to a team at SGI who were building one of the first multi-person video chat apps. Since they were building it, they used it constantly. And the FIRST TWO THINGS THEY DID were: 1) a plugin that played a 5 second loop of you looking like you were still there; and 2) a plugin that would detect lulls in conversation and say "Mmm hmmm" in your voice.

The website for the Columbia Law Review, which last I checked hosted freely readable copies of all articles from 2008 onward, is now offline, displaying a "Website is under maintenance" message. Editors say it's because the review's board of directors took the site down after the editors refused to remove an article by a Palestinian legal scholar: https://theintercept.com/2024/06/03/columbia-law-review-palestine-board-website/

So, is there a patterned fabric you can use to make a shirt that is anti-optimized for modern video stream compression, such that your meetings totally bog down for all participants because everyone’s client-side code is working so hard to encode/decode the wildly demanding images of your shirt every time you shift slightly in your seat?

Asking for a friend.
