Okay, I won't say this is always true, but it almost always is in my experience.

coffeepine,

@RickiTarr Poor people simply have more positive experiences with sharing. They are more likely to have experienced the thankfulness on the receiving end and therefore try to replicate and "repay" with their small means.

People are angry because #GretaThunberg now pivoted to a more anticapitalist stance.

I am a bit baffled because she always had those undertones anyway, and she now finally arrived at the position you have to arrive at logically.

Capitalism is the main driver behind the #ClimateCrisis and it will not allow the solution.

This was a fun one, so let's do it again. What is something you've learned that seems unlikely, even though you know it's true? Here's one I think about a lot:

Sight, while being something something many people are born with, is not an innate ability, but something we learn to do. People who were born blind or were blind for a long time, who get sight, have to learn to see.

@RickiTarr It is possible that the oldest university dealing with the English language and culture as subject was started at a Swedish university that is now German.

Two state-elections in West Germany where the Nazis get around 20% while the "conservatives" (well...other Nazis) win in landslides.

Where is the "East Germany has a Nazi problem" crowd?

"A majority of people are for climate protection, still nothing gets done. Why?"

Newspapers ask the darnedest questions. Here's why..

1.) Climate action entails less consumption. FAR LESS consumption. However, not consuming is deadly for capitalism.

They will sell you every bogus solution under the sun but all of these will make you keep consuming. This will lead to the extraction AND exploitation of resources and labour. The best capitalism will ever do is delay the collapse either temporarily or locally.
Capitalism CANNOT solve this issue.

And our capitalist overlords KNOW this.

That's why they chug either bullshit solutions or (culture) wars your way. It's a distraction.

So, first of all you finally have to get it into your head that saving the planet means toppling capitalism and subsequently means fighting fascists. These three things are linked. Details may vary. Sometimes it is murky but these three things make the world's ugliest threesome since I kissed both Fülber-twins on one evening in 5th grade.

2.) This necessary fight and transformation will and can come only at the price of your comfort zones. Replacing plastic straws at fast food restaurants is neat but that's not what's needed.

You cannot just be in favour of measures to save the planet, save humanity. You'll have to, on some level, fight for it.

coffeepine, to random
@coffeepine@beige.party avatar

By the way, you can criticise Biden and still not be pro-Trump. You can point out war crimes and downright genocide in Gaza put in motion by the current, fascist Israeli government, and still not be an antisemite. You can be against Putin's invasion but still know that not everything is kosher in Ukraine.

The world is not black and white. In fact, this easy way of just choosing a side is exactly what fascists use everywhere around the globe.

Anyone who sells you easy answers that consist of "one-side good, other side bad" arguments are certain to lie....

Don't fall for cults, and for fuck's sake stop waving flags...

That's probably one of the worst things about late stage capitalism. There seems to be no more veneer of decency anymore. These people blatantly tell us what our place in society is according to capitalist doctrine:

Breed, work, consume.

Everything that used to mask this brutal reality is treated with disdain and mockery.

The people in power blatantly and openly tell us that THIS is the ONLY purpose we have in their plans.

And yet a lot of people who are hit by this the hardest vote for this shit because they think the message is for people THEY hate (queers, foreigners, socialists whatever). They cannot perceive that when all is said and done, this will apply to everyone who isn't the ruling class.

What is your dream road trip? Where would you start? Where would you end up? What stops would you make along the way? It can be short or long, whatever interests you!

coffeepine,
@coffeepine@beige.party avatar

@RickiTarr

My perfect roadtrip would be to someday just deciding to walk. I might be on an errand suddenly realizing there is no time anymore for bullshit.

So, I'd just walk. Any direction would be fine honestly. Maybe I'd follow sunbeams, or an ancient field of flowers flanked by trees promising myth and adventure. I'd walk until I'd meet a friend or someone that could become a friend.

And, despite my weariness, I'd offer any help I could provide in exchange for a little food, a little bit of shelter and a good story. Oh, the songs and ballads we could spin.

Then, I'd be off again. Any direction would be fine honestly. Maybe I'd follow sunbeams, or an ancient field of flowers flanked by trees promising myth and adventure. I'd walk until I'd meet a friend or someone that could become a friend.

And, despite my weariness, I'd offer any help I could provide in exchange for the usual. I'd tell them about all the friends I found, and the help they provided, the troubles they faced and about the people they once knew.

Likely, there'd be a tale in there about you too. And we'd laugh about you – you silly goose – but never in any mean spirited way.

And I'd like to think that I could walk like this forever. But who knows, right?

Maybe, I'd find a particular set of sunbeams, or a destinct, ancient field of flowers flanked by trees asking me to stay. I'd build a home there. A small cottage and a garden facing the road. I'd sit outside on a small little bench and I would wave at a friend or someone that could become a friend.

And I'd like to think, it would be fun to offer some food and a bed next to the hearth in exchange for a little help and stories.

In any case, still wandering or in my little garden, my journey would end. And I'd hope that after burying me some place where holy pine needles bless a sandy ground next to a babbling brook, my story would keep wandering with you and everyone that follows you.

I'd like to think that everyone that falls asleep at my grave side suddenly wakes up, forgets about whatever errand there was and decides to start walking.

Any direction would be fine honestly.

Okay, one more go.

Jeez folks, I am really morbidly fascinated by how many think pieces there are about what Mastodon has to do in order to grow and finally attract celebs, influencers and journos.

Is it so hard to understand that the absence of these is the appeal here for many people? Instead of chasing growth and reach, why don't you grow yourself a little?

Get it into your thick skulls. And no, having to choose a server on sign-up does not make this a site for nerds. It just shows you do not understand how the fucking internet works, because all you do is 'consume' community while trying to get clicks.

And that's precisely what a lot of people are simply sick and tired of.

Then it turns out, they think that sapiosexual means being attracted to hot dudes wearing glasses.

Whenever I run into any sort of gender debate in the wild, I recognise the trend that defenders of 'manliness' usually either have no real clue what makes a man, or they put up 'rules' that are totally arbitrary and often they don't fulfil those themselves.

Guys, wouldn't the following three steps make everything easier?

1.) Acknowledge that there are no rules about what makes a man.

2.) Abandon all the stupid notions and just try to be a better human.

3.) Chill the fuck out!

People who still think that capitalism will work out if we just regulate it enough or in the right way are the dumbest fucks around.

"But look at Scandinavian countries, it works there. I'd rather have that than Chinese communism."

1.) Your McCarthy is showing.
2.) There's more than one way to do this "communal" thing.
3.) Apart from bloody tankies most leftists agree with you that neither the Soviet Union, China or Cuba are worth aspiring to.

4.) Scandinavian countries are RICH and have to take care of relatively small populations.
5.) Scandinavian countries are RICH because of FOSSIL FUELS.

Think about this for a while and then shut the fuck up.

6.) Right wing/fascist parties are on the rise all over Scandinavian because even the well-regulated capitalism is failing. (for more examples: see Germany)

It cannot be reformed. It will not solve the issues it creates. #Capitalism has to go. It works in tandem with #fascism (see Joe Biden).

As long as you do not get into your head that antifascism, anticapitalism and anti-climate-crisis are the same fight, we will lose it.

I still constantly read posts here about economy growth rates; usually in favour of whatever politician to peddle.

Guys, the economy growing is NOT an indicator for justice, freedom, equality or even happiness.

See, I really don't see myself as 'East German'. I mostly move through my life with no particular allegiance to Germany as a whole. I just happen to be German and accepted the baggage that comes with that.

Aight, yesterday I came to the conclusion of ending my internship three weeks early to catch some breath, experience some bit of summer and brace for exam preparation as well as said exams.

None of which makes me particularly nervous.

My anxiety stems from the fact that I might not want to work in the field I just spent two years training for.

And I hate that somehow this is my currently only option to not go under in this world.

Everything around us just seems to disintegrate. And people often come at me with "But capitalism cannot be responsible for every shitty thing in your life!"

Except...it is. You can literally look at anything broken in your surroundings and there is a 95% chance that if you follow the chain of causality, you end up looking at the economic system.

It's broken, it is so fundamentally fucked. Once you see and understand the pattern, it is IMPOSSIBLE to ignore.

Why do we cling to this?

The most important resource each and every one of us values the most anyway is available to us 24/7 in abundance. It's a freak of nature because if you give out said resource, you'll get it in return. It is even scientifically proven that this is not some romantic notion of mine.

The one thing that makes ALL OF US rich is connection to each other. That's it. That's what all the bullshit we are told to achieve boils down to.

All we have to do is create communities and systems that maintain each other.

Once you see this, you realise it everywhere, and it breaks my heart that - even though we are many - we are so thoroughly under the thumb of a few sociopaths who cannot feel this.

Be radical in whatever way you see fit. Especially, be radical in approaching your fellow humans again and again. Reach out, and be reached out to. It will make you happier.

Except Nazis. You punch Nazis.
