Tell me you've never helped seniors with tech, without telling me you've never helped seniors with tech.

And I don't just mean the person answering this question. I also mean whoever decided to remove this option.

@paul_ipv6 @tychotithonus working for a national center on low-incidence disabilities over 20 years ago has forever changed my design and development. And that stemmed from very little user testing and observations. I don’t think it really takes much to see needs and make shifts. But one does have to be willing to spend at least some time working with users who have varying needs.

Oklahoma’s governor refuses to let kids in his state access the federal government’s new summer EBT program, to ensure that kids can have meals when school is out. In response, five tribal nations have teamed up to provide the benefits to any eligible kids who happen to live on tribal land (which is a lot of Oklahoma). https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/09/us/politics/school-meals-summer-ebt.html?unlocked_article_code=1.jE0.NZAi.mehkrnKm8xuN&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&ugrp=u&sgrp=c-cb

@waldoj I’m part Chickasaw. The work these five tribes in Oklahoma are doing together for health care, education, food access, even economic development in the state is HUGE. I’d love to see a great story that really illuminates the amazing work of these tribes (just back from a trip in Choctaw Nation, lots of great facilities).

Young people are waking up every day to media about war, genocides, dead children. They are unsure of being able to make a living, scared by debt, violence, addiction, homelessness. They are unsure if the burning planet will even support their lives. They are struggling for secure basic housing after having their lives upended by a pandemic...

meanwhile the NYT:

StephanieMoore,

@quinn there’s a looooong history of blaming the medium instead of the message. It’s so much easier to critique inanimate objects.

Space trash falling back to earth is not progress.

Stealing a woman’s voice is not progress.

Taking data and information from people without their consent is not progress.

Consuming vast amounts of water as we teeter on climate disaster is not progress.

Consolidating wealth to a few who are the ones dumping space trash, stealing women’s voices, taking data without consent and depleting precious water resources is not progress.

Government that protects those wealthy few is #NotProgress.

My guess: may have someone like co-signing Chubb bond, so the bank is comfortable being on the hook for the judgment. Same could happen for the bond for AG $450M judgment. & this strategy wd allow co-signor to say truthfully that they did not give or loan Trump any $

Joyce Vance:

This=important pt. Trump is beholden to someone & we don't know who. Reporters shd ask him to explain all of the details. GOP leaders shd, but probably won't be esp concerned.

Yes! I've been shouting this for years now. Gift link:
Forget ‘polarization.’ It’s the GOP’s radicalization. https://wapo.st/4ccHL3R

StephanieMoore,
@StephanieMoore@mastodon.online avatar

@jeffjarvis this is a well-done piece making a strong case. And it has implications beyond November even if Trump loses. In that case, I think the majority of the GOP is going to become a more insidious form of what they are now (the remainder believe they’re at war and are going to respond with violence to a loss). So even if democracy wins out in November, we have to be ready for a major party that continues to be radicalized. That won’t go away overnight.

A day before Passover begins, the rabbi at Columbia University in NYC tells his Jewish students to go home as the school cannot keep them safe after pro-Palestinian protestors on campus yell “Burn Tel Aviv to the ground!” and other pro-violence slogans supporting Hamas.

StephanieMoore,
@StephanieMoore@mastodon.online avatar

@w7voa Steve, I’m curious if there’s unequivocal evidence of those calls? I’m not on the bird site anymore and not seeing what’s being shared. What I HAVE heard is that the main video driving outrage is being mistranslated and misrepresented. And I happen to know one of the students arrested. She is far from being antisemitic, an anarchist, or pro-violence. Quite the opposite.

It will always blow my mind that Fundies use the Bible to explain why women should be submissive uneducated stay at home baby machines, while the Bible's own description of the "Perfect" woman is a Land owning female boss who is praised by her husband and her city for her contributions.

StephanieMoore,

@RickiTarr I did my undergrad at a Southern Baptist university and wrote my Biblical Ethics paper on “Can you be Christian and a feminist?” specifically to call out the passage on the Proverbial Woman! Lots of other passages, too, about amazing wise women who led and passages about embracing sexuality, but woe unto ye who mention Song of Solomon.

Just heard from my oldest that one of his middle school friends - actually went to a middle school dance with her - was arrested today by NYPD for protesting the genocide in Gaza and Columbia’s silencing of protests. She is an amazing young woman.

Our right to protest is being SUBSTANTIALLY eroded. Universities should never be participants in that. So little backbone among university leaders these days.

On the drive home from seeing the eclipse, my family stayed in a really gross hotel, but it was late and the last available hotel in that small West Virginia town. They sent me a survey about my stay, which I completed. In response, the hotel manager accused me of lying and banned me from his squalid hotel. 😑

Nothing good has ever come from me providing honest negative feedback in post-purchase surveys. Never.

StephanieMoore,
@StephanieMoore@mastodon.online avatar

@waldoj exactly. One guy at a Honda place told me that anything less than 5 stars was bad. So I only ever do that if I truly feel it was a 5-star experience. They aren’t organizational improvement surveys; they’re employee punishment surveys.
