Almost everyone who says "Mastodon didn't work for me" on Bluesky seems to have posted only "me me me" stuff for months (if that) on Mastodon, followed about 10-20 people, never replied to anyone and then gave up because "nobody there, it didn't fly".
It seems there is a big misunderstanding how this free and healthy social media works. We are not here for the easy wins, likes, shares and dopamine spikes. We are here because we accept the fact we are not part of the commercial hype machine. We choose natural engagement over spoiling algorithms, we choose conversation and meaning in our social media. At least that is how I see it.

Corporate 'Social' Media
Is a competition space for gaining followers, ego-boosting, #shitposting & self promotion. It is how they are built & designed. A few massively circulated posts, from handful of accounts & a vast sea of ignored posts.
Community #Social#Media
Is a cooperative space for finding friends, learning stuff, supporting each other &having fun. With attention spread between users far more evenly. It is not a social overlords vs serf audience model. #Fedi#Fediverse
The Y2K bug is a great illustration that a well-handled potential disaster looks like “nothing happened” in retrospect. The fact that Y2K seemed to be a non-event is a testament to how seriously people took this emergency, and how everyone buckled down and averted a worldwide infrastructure disaster.
I started working at Honeywell Aerospace (AlliedSignal back then) in 1998, and by that time people were already working on Y2K issues. We were in the GPS navigation business, and there were real issues that would have caused aircraft navigation to go awry unless they were fixed.
People buckled down, found the bugs, ran simulations, got FAA sign-offs, and deployed the fixes to all affected aircraft well before Y2K. Thanks to the effort, “nothing happened”. But I assure you (bad) things would have happened if we did nothing. https://infosec.exchange/@tychotithonus/111670219441506220
Of course democracy is disappointing. That's the design. Gently disappointing everyone trying chart a middle course. Leaving everyone not entirely satisfied, because resources are finite & everyone wants different things.
Good #democracy is mildly unsatisfying for everyone. That is the point. The least shitty system we aspire to
Throwing mildly disappointing democracy away, for not being perfect, is insanity.
Democratic void is terrible for nearly everyone, that's it's main feature. #politics
@RickiTarr
Well I'd say the words.
"I accept Jesus as my saviour"
After we'd landed alive I'd say 2 more things.
a) We're never going Skydiving together again.
b) If He-Man, Pingu, Dr Manhatten, DangerMouse or Scooby Doo want to show up as my saviour, I'll accept them too.

After soaking up a load of subsidies, & sabotaging several non-hypothetical transport projects, Elmo #Musk's #HyperLoop shuts down, having achieved little, but wasted much.
I wonder how many bus or cycle route improvements could have been made instead with all that money.

Anyone have any thoughts about selling a lot of art design reference etc books in the UK?
I have stacks and stacks of mint condition & quite beautiful art, design, architecture, various reference books. Is anyone managing to sell books these days?
Individual sales via ebay or whatever would take too long, be too much work packaging and sending individual books I think. Some kind of bulk sale would be better. #FediHelp
Anyone have any thoughts about selling a film/tv collection in UK?
I have a lot of 4Ks, blu rays and DVDs, physical movies & tv shows on disc. I could ship them, but also if I can get some cash for them that isn't ridiculously low that would be an option.
Some ppl think it's hard to do more of yearly meals as #Plantbased#Vegan.
It's simple.
Every meal we do that way is another positive ripple.
It's good for health & longevity.
It's good for quality of life.
It's good for planet.
It's good for animals.
It's good for defunding the most polluting resource intensive industries & their awful politicians.
It helps everyone.

The skills that made you a billionaire, that increase your wealth, are steadily eroding society & democracy with instability & inequality.
#LetterToBillionaires
The militarized operators you rely on to protect you +your stuff are held in check, precisely by norms of the society you are ruining
Someday soon they will look at you, at how unnecessary your billionaire skills are in the new order & wonder why they, their colleagues, friends, & family should have so much less than someone who's skills are no longer relevant. Then they kill you, take your stuff, & rule in your place using the skillsets that suit the new order you created
#LetterToBillionaires
The billionaire's only hope to a continued life of comfort & safety is to stop pursuing the billions, instead focus on supporting society, paying taxes, making society resilient & stable & equitable & able to rise to meet climate change.
This is the only path that can keep you & yours safe. Preserving your society, not parasitically degrading it.
If you don't believe me about social collapse... look how often oligarchs
'fall out of windows'
in Russia. #NoBillionaires
I'm almost 49 now so it's only a few more years until I start shrinking & become almost hobbit in size. I remember joking with folks in my mid 20s that I was ripped off my 2nd growth spurt(waited til age 39 for it - never got it!). I am going to be 3' tall by age 65 because of the shrinking factor in older years 🤣
I want my old person wizard cape. I lived long enough to earn one, on Earth. I will be short & small enough to sneak into concerts 😄
