I just stumbled on metar-taf.com, which has a very user-friendly interface and a livestream of real-time WX at any reporting airport.
Not affiliated or anything, just thought I’d pass this along. Search for your airport in upper right corner. Then hit the LIVESTREAM link at top. Enjoy!
Emma Lilian Todd (1865-1937) was a self-taught inventor who liked to take things apart and put them back together to see how they worked.
A lawyer and a clerk in the US patent Office, she would type up patent applications, and she learned what worked, and what didn’t work.
Inspired by airships she saw on a trip, Todd began creating designs around 1903, trying & eliminating different features until she successfully designed a working #aircraft that improved upon the Wright brothers' model.
I don't normally love white on an aircraft, but there something very clean about this one, and the very light gray palm tree on the tail was just "chef's kiss"!!
Apologies for the "back-lighting" - they were firing up the engines and safety says "stay where you are".
A US Navy P-3 Orion photographed at Salem, Oregon in August 1980. I just happend to be at the airport with my camera when the plane made a brief stop to drop off a passenger.
A hydrogen-powered experimental aircraft 'HY4' has made its first official flight, taking off and landing at Stuttgart Airport.
Developed primarily by Germany’s DLR Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics, the twin-fuselage plane is the first four-seater aircraft in the world powered solely by a hydrogen fuel cell.
So, as Boeing stumbles under the weight of its own (fatal) mistakes, and Airbus struggles to keep up with the resulting pivot in demand, Brazilian Embraer is now (perhaps unsurprisingly) exploring entering the segment of the market for commercial jets that for so long as been an effective duopoly of Boeing & Airbus.
Embraer is already the third largest global manufacturer of jet aircraft & dominates the market fr regional jets.... one firms mistake is another's opportunity!
Man the Midwest has been hammered today with tornadoes. At Omaha’s Eppley Airfield (KOMA), what looks like at least four rows of T-Hangers took a direct hit from an EF2, and wiped dozens of airplanes off the FAA registry. Man I am sad for the owners, no idea if there were injuries.
Screengrabs from #wunderground, just look at the tornado warnings!
Goodyear Blimp Columbia N4A at McNary Field in Salem, Oregon September 1978.
I shot this on Eastmancolor 5247 film, which faded badly over the decades. But modern color restoration software made it look good as new with just a few clicks. I'm quite pleased with the result, which is now part of my online gallery.

Air Force funds 'blended wing body' plane design for long-range, fuel-efficient flight (www.popsci.com)
Although funded by the military, this design could one day be applied to commercial flight as well.
