I don’t think these will be successful as passenger jets because when they bank the outer seats of the passenger area will go up and down a lot more than with a tubular design.

Cargo? Maybe. Tanker? Sure. But I don’t think it would be pleasant at all for passengers.

Like the flying wing from 1947?

Hotdogman,

No, no! This is totes new and we need billions of tax money to further research being able to bomb anyone in the world on 1 tank of gas.

TheChurn,

A blended wing is rather different from th flying wing designs of the YB-49, or the more modern B-2 and B-21. While a flying wing (B-2) has wings without a real fuselage, and a lifting body (X-24A) has a fuselage without real wings, a blended wing has both wings and a fuselage with a smooth transition between them.

This reduces drag and the moment of inertia vs the flying wing design, and increases lift and carrying capacity vs the lifting body design.

Compared to flying wings, blended wing designs can work with much smaller airframes, as shown by the use of only 2 engines vs the 4 in the B-2. The B-2 is notoriously fuel-hungry and needs in-air refueling every 6 hours, they are looking to address some of those shortcomings and create a useful logistics aircraft.
