Climate organization puts $120M into 2024 election

League of Conservation Voters statement:
"Trump and MAGA Republicans have been clear that if they are in control, they will stop at nothing to dismantle progress and our democratic institutions in favor of fulfilling Big Oil’s agenda. Meanwhile, President Biden has done more to fight the climate crisis than any other president in our country’s history.”

Women are getting off birth control amid misinformation explosion

Misinformation about birth control has exploded because of algorithms that feed young women a stream of videos reinforcing messages divorced from scientific evidence. 🤦‍♀️

Doctors warn these methods can result in unwanted pregnancies in teens and young people at a time when nearly half of states ban or restrict abortion. 🚫

I see far too many chronic illness patients being dismissed from the ER for “faking”. Is there not a duty to run tests to ensure something isn’t missed before discharging someone as a fake? Given the consequences could literally be their life?

This happened to me years ago -
I had major OB GYN surgery and a week later was getting worse not better. Weak, in pain, swollen, loss of appetite etc. Went to the ER and was treated like a “nuisance” and asked what I “expected” after major surgery. I tried to explain I expected to improve a little each day - and I was clearly decompensating.

They decided I was faking and sent me home. This repeated 3 times over the course of a week - each time I was sent home without any tests.

Finally my then boyfriend took me in for a 4th time - literally carrying me to triage because I could no longer stand up. They got angry and said “we’ve already told her there’s nothing we can do.” He said he wasn’t taking me home to die. He demanded they run tests. The situation escalated but they finally acquiesced to the most basic blood work and an ultrasound. I’m incredibly fortunate they listened to him - and incredibly angry it took a man causing a scene to get me care.

Turns out I had a hugely elevated white blood count, a ferritin of zero and a hemoglobin of 63. I had a massive infected abscess in my abdomen that had been caused by an internal bleed left unchecked for weeks. I was rushed to emergency surgery and needed multiple rounds of blood transfusions and spent weeks in the hospital.

Had I gone home - I more than likely would have died. Had I been alone - I would have died. It should never be this way and from what I’m hearing from other patients it’s only gotten worse since Covid.

Please listen to your patients. We KNOW our bodies. Listen to women & marginalized individuals… don’t make us bring someone else to tell our story. Listen to people who come back over and over again - they clearly need help. Have some compassion and don’t assume someone is faking just because you don’t see an obvious issue.

Women GPs in #Australia treat more people for mental health and women's health conditions but the Medicare payments to GPs for these types of long appointments are less per hour than the payments to GPs treating simpler conditions in short appointments. This leads to women GPs generally earning less than male GPs.

I'm pretty happy about this initiative and I'm not seeing it get much attention.

Check it out! Funding for research into women's health! Way overdue, but I'll take it.

Republicans Seize Control of YOUR Healthcare Decisions and It Kills Women.

Allie Phillips (@allie4tn), a young Tennessee woman who runs a daycare from home and has a young daughter, Adalie, was delighted to learn she was pregnant with a second daughter, Miley Rose, in 2022. The same year, Tennessee enacted an abortion ban after the fall of Roe v Wade. Allie had no reason to believe this would affect her - but unfortunately it did.

Miley Rose was deemed "incompatible with life" at around 19 weeks, and Allie was faced with the decision many women must grapple with now that Roe has fallen: to leave the state to receive abortion care, or to continue her pregnancy as her daughter deteriorated, threatening Allie's life and fertility. She chose the former, & documented the difficult, time-sensitive process to her nearly 300,000 TikTok followers.

Now, Allie is running for a seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

Came across this well reasoned post about abortion: Why do people think that an abortion is about a woman's body?

Author: Feifei Wang (Lives in Seattle, WA (2021–present))
https://www.quora.com/profile/Feifei-Wang-6

I assume you are arguing that abortion is not about a woman’s body, but rather, it is about the “life” of the fetus.

OK.

I present to you a different scenario:

Say you have a brother. You are estranged at birth and you never meet him or talk to him.

One day, your brother, a person you never met, but share some DNA with, came to you and told you his kidney is failing and you are a match. He asked if you could donate a kidney to him.

Without your kidney, your brother will die.

But kidney transplant carries a lot of risk for the donor. The procedure itself is risky. You will suffer many complications even if the surgery is successful. You’ll never fully recover. You’ll always feel tired and your own kidney function will suffer.

Do you think this procedure is about YOUR body or is it about your brother’s life? Do you think it is YOUR choice to donate the kidney, or your brother is entitled to your organs simply because you share some DNA?

More importantly, do you think the state has the right to force you to donate your organ to save a life?

It’s a life! It’s your family, your blood!

If you think the state should not make laws that regulate your body even if your organ can save a life, you understand why the state should not make laws that regulate women’s bodies, even if you think a fetus is a person.
