Valve is seeing an increasing number of bug reports for issues caused by Canonical's repackaging of the Steam client through snap.
The best way to install Steam on Debian and derivative operating systems is to follow the instructions at http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ and use the official .deb
We are not involved with the snap repackaging. It has a lot of issues.
If you don't want the .deb, please at least consider the flatpak version.
"Walmart surprises with industry-leading change to wages"
Walmart's surprise is that it is lowering its starting wage by $1 this year.
A 2020 US Government Accountability Office study of data from six states found Walmart was a top employer of Medicaid [healthcare subsidies] enrollees and a top employer of SNAP [food subsidies] recipients.
Walmart's business model relies on corporate welfare while its employees work full time and struggle to pay for food and healthcare.
Employees need to surprise Walmart with a union ASAP.
Dollar Tree and its subsidiary Family Dollar are closing 1,000 stores.
According to Dollar Tree CEO Rick Dreiling, who makes 951 times the $14,702 median pay of his employees, “Persistent inflation and reduced government benefits continue to pressure the lower-income consumers that comprise a sizable portion of Family Dollar’s customer base."
Corporate profits account for about 53% of greedflation.
Dollar Tree employees are among the top recipients of government safety net programs, such as Medicaid and food stamps (SNAP) benefits.
Maybe, just maybe, if predatory corporate chain stores like Dollar Tree would pay their employees a living wage, they could generate profit the good old fashioned way, by selling retail goods to customers that need or want them. Just a thought.

Oh snap! Good news, Linux users: we're adding the Thunderbird Snap, previously maintained by the awesome Ubuntu desktop team, to our officially supported Linux packages! 📦 🐧

I’m proud to announce the new, next-gen Linux packaging format: FlatSnappImage!
With centuries of combined packaging design experience, Red Hat, Canonical, and randos on the Internet have created the ONLY format you need. Its revolutionary design includes the best of all worlds:
• Allocating all unused disk space in case its needed in the future
• Proprietary back-end with no human review
• No sandboxing, because it just gets in the way!
It sounds like a reasonable idea: the GOP wants to require people age 50-55 without kids to work if they want to get food stamps.
But there are a few problems with painting that group as slackers: most of those people already work, and most of those who don't work aren't working because they are caring for kids or elders or dealing with significant health issues.
Canonical has poisoned search results for many apps plus a Linux distro name. For example, Googling “Spotify elementary OS” returns an auto-generated page on the Snap Store site that requires using a terminal, installing a whole package manager as root, and missing out on details and updates in AppCenter.
elementary would point you to Flathub where you can install w/two clicks and then get AppCenter integration.
@edafe@simon_brooke@bthalpin Also, if you don't want to go to all the hassle of a distro switch, it is possible to un-snapify an Ubuntu distro by using PPA alternatives. Here's how to get back to normal Firefox:
