"Isn't it ironic that a site called linuxsecurity.com needs to be blacklisted? Ryan says "100% generated." (Read as: botspam)

Ironic, surely. BAD too, because there will be newbies saying " is not secure" after following AI-generated wrong advice

details: https://techrights.org/n/2024/05/20/Guardian_Digital_Inc_linuxsecurity_com_Has_Resorted_to_Plagiari.shtml

@mfioretti_en I just used a GPT detector on the site in question and it was 99% confident the content was human made. Seems these tools are not super reliable.

Also, I wouldn't trust techrights as far as I could throw it. Absolute crackpots.

Another excellent Doctor Who. Really enjoying this season. 😍
A bigger budget and great stories makes a real difference from last season.

@double_a_runi the current one. Episode 3 aired today. First two episodes were last week before Eurovision.

Whenever I go to the Asian supermarket in town, I always come out with stuff I never intended to buy. Today, these and these! Nom! Delicious snacks!

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

I do love that shop. It’s such a shame the town centre has a noisy amplified god-botherer lecturing everyone about their sins. So offputting. Makes me not want to go to the shops at all if noisy man and his sermons are there.

@j_l_meek I was thinking more like pouring treacle in his speaker, but criminal damage isn’t my bag

Now I get why a lot of people don't like #snaps. #Snapcraft is superbroken outside of #Ubuntu 😕

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@jadolg Super broken how, specifically?

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@jadolg Oh I dunno if Ubuntu has any more magic. I have found the exact same problems you've seen with lxc and multipass on Ubuntu too :D

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@jadolg I often leverage the launchpad build farm when I had these issues by the way. "snapcraft remote-build" is a nice way to get multiple architecture builds of stuff, using someone else's compute :D

I’m steaming some jersey royals for my signature potato salad. I can’t tell you the recipe, because then I’d have to kill you. We’ll have it for lunch with some green salad and smoked mackerel fillets, yum

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@purplepadma I had a revolutionary potato salad a while back. They steamed then fried the potatoes before adding the mayo and chopped boiled egg. It was amazing

Am I the only user that gets turned off a project if the only supported way of installing it on Linux is ?

I didn't like homebrew when I used a mac, and I certainly don't want to have it when I have much preferred package managers preinstalled.

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@ainmosni Thing is, software developers have limited time, so maybe brew is the path of least resistance for them. You could offer to package it up some other way for them? :D

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@ainmosni Fair. I hear people say the same when there's 'only' a deb, or 'only' a snap or flatpak or appimage.

Can't keep everyone happy :D.

What software is it, out of interest?

popey,
@popey@mastodon.social avatar

@ainmosni there are non-brew packages in their GitHub releases page.

Just caught up with last weekends doctor who. Absolutely loved both episodes. It’s obvious the budget is upped and the US audience is a prime target with the Beatles. Still, I enjoyed all of it.

WTF is my OS downloading this on a amd64 machine in this year and age?

Get:12 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-security i386 Contents¹ (deb)

¹ I'm not complaining about getting a Contents file, that is on purpose, but i386!??!

Have a good weekend 🙏 :D

Ubuntu Desktop’s 24.10 Dev Cycle - The Roadmap

"Our plan is to grow the Ubuntu Desktop team by at least another 50% over the next year and we are opening a range of positions across all levels of seniority in the coming weeks. @greasefart @ianp5a What about gamers? They're predominantly not open-source users, but are very often shown having compact mechanical gaming keyboards.
