One of the things I get most out of scrolling on TikTok is recipe ideas. I stopped scrolling when I saw this recipe for Greek biftekia (basically burger and chips). Never heard of this Greek version before, but it looks simple and potentially tasty. So I am making it for lunch.

Installed 12.04 on this ThinkPad a while back, then upgraded it to 14.04. I wonder if it can go all the way through 16.04, 18.04, 20.04, 22.04 and successfully end up on 24.04...

A screenshot of Ubuntu 14.04 desktop with a terminal running neofetch, a telegram window with the Linux Matters channel showing, and an update manager dialog telling me I should upgrade..

Amusingly, and confusingly, the upgrade offered me the 18.04 update while it was busy upgrading me from 14.04 to 16.04!

Ok, the #Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 upgrade worked.

Next stop, 18.04!

Upgrade from #Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 successful!

This was the first LTS with GNOME shell, after Unity was dropped in 2017.

Onwards to 20.04!

@Mpinheir It's a ~2015 ThinkPad T450 which has an i7 and plenty of RAM. It runs any release just fine.

Ok, we're into the 'modern age' of #Ubuntu 20.04! Everything looks good. Time to power through to 22.04!

Successful upgrade all the way from a clean 12.04 through all the LTS releases (14.04, 16.04, 18.04, 20.04) up to 22.04. Easy 📈

Next stop Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, but that will have to wait, as I have an appoint with a pub and curry this evening. 🍺 🍛

One of our neighbours had an EV charger fitted to their house to plug their Tesla into.

The road is now being dug up because every time they plug their car in, the neighbours experience complete power loss.

Oopsie.

@Edent Greetings. Minor broken link at the bottom of this blog. Looks like a mailto link. https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2024/02/a-tiny-incomplete-single-user-write-only-activitypub-server-in-php/

I have an "Ohme" branded EV charger at home. For the last month they've been incentivising leaving the car plugged in (whether charging or not) and rewarding with vouchers. I barely adjusted my behaviour last month and got 9 quid. 😀

@acesabe There's a bit of. a difference between a few mW from a phone and some KW from a car. My car could power a neighbours lights or TV quite easily.

@acesabe people already have infra to feed back to the grid. How is this any different? People use solar, and sell that back. This is the same, just a different source.

Hah! The 'its foss' effect of posting a link to my blog on the fediverse ;)

A bit of a cpu bump.

I have just noticed (on my snap charts) a "significant" jump in installs of Halloy (the modern cross-platform client written in ).

Looks like it's now a 'featured' app in the Snap Store. Thanks Snap Store admins.

Thadmins.

(where "significant" is double-digits)
