Did you know you can easily search through your own Mastodon posts?

Just include from:me in the search field.

Instead of this, you can include in:library to show posts you have interacted with or written yourself.

If you want to search through posts of a specific user, include from:username (the full username, including the instance)

If it doesn't work, have a look at this:

I'm re-reading piles of books. 83 of my fave childhood books are banned nationwide.

If you need a digital copy of a banned book, PM me. I will send you a copy.

I have a lifetime membership to the National Archives and the Library of Congress. Most Out of Print and Banned books are PDF form but can easily be converted for ereaders. Banning books is a form of bullying and you'll never get me to believe otherwise. Save digital copies to thumbdrives, phone memory, tablet memory, SDcards, flash drives. AND SHARE THEM.

To not be able to read a book because it upsets 2% of the world is a Travesty. Knowledge should never be withheld. ~ Lolly Inkpen

A thread on ignorance in science.

It’s often claimed that science is about accumulating knowledge. But knowledge accumulation is only one side of the scientific coin. This thread contains 10 quotes from scientists, philosophers of science, sociologists, feminists, and statisticians who’ve highlighted the importance of ignorance in science, both as a precursor and a product. Enjoy!

An interesting read about caffeine…

https://zantafakari.substack.com/p/the-case-against-caffeine

I've started drinking coffee relatively late, and have a love-hate relationship with it. Sometimes I happily quit drinking coffee for a while, and sometimes I feel so tired that I really need a coffee energy boost to get things done, even though it's a temporary adrenaline boost with drawbacks.

Lately I'm drinking more green tea to curb my caffeine intake.

The Sakya Monastery in tibet has a library comprising some 84,000 books. Most are Buddhist scriptures, but there are works of literature, history, philosophy, astronomy, mathematics, agriculture, and art. They date back centuries.

In 2011 they began to digitize the library. All books are indexed and about 20% have been fully digitized.

Astrolabes were #Smartphones of their #time & could be used for over 1,000 different applications

#Knowledge of the #stars was an important element of #Islamic #culture.

The word astrolabe comes from the #Greek for ‘star-taker’.

From the 8th century, #scientists & thinkers used instruments like this to gather information relating to timekeeping, positions of sun, stars, #planets, & point to the direction of #Mecca.

Really impressed with how far AnyType has come in the last year. As I predicted in my article from the Alpha version, it didn't take long at all for this app to match Notion for everything I needed to organize important aspects of my life.

It still has a bit of a learning curve and some sticky areas, but it's fully functional, secure, and streamlined enough to pick up with just a few hours of practice setting up a course schedule for my classes in the Summer/Fall.

#Rationalism is a philosophical position or view that #reason is the source of knowledge.

Vernon J. #Bourke wrote that rationalism is defined as a methodology or a theory "in which the criterion of #truth is not sensory but intellectual and deductive."

Knowledge Fight: #820: Tucker, The Man And His Twitter- Episode 2 (knowledgefight.libsyn.com)

Today, Dan and Jordan explore the very bizarre second episode of Tucker Carlson's Twitter show. This installment sorta revolves around cultural taboos, and Tucker spends a lot of time complaining about how society doesn't like white supremacists enough.

Grace Linn’s husband was killed while fighting nazis in WWII. She’s a centenarian who has witnessed the rise of fascism first hand.

Recently she took on a school board in Florida against their book bans. She made a quilt in protest and reminded people where book bans lead:

“Banning books and burning books are the same. Both are done for the same reason: fear of knowledge.”

Some people see the idea of organising knowledge as a time sink with little to no benefit in terms of productivity (not to mention the fact that it can be a very demanding job). And yet, people still do it. Notion et al are thriving as a result. #notion #knowledge #knowledgegraph #productivity

The Priesthood of Expertise

#Knowledge is under attack by an ill-informed public determined to replace it with popular #ignorance.

Though this is not entirely possible – no society could survive such a transition – the breakdown in trust between experts and laypeople underlying this misguided ambition is making the U.S. ungovernable.

#Experts are held in contempt, sometimes for their errors but increasingly simply because they are experts and laypeople are not.
