A common refrain is that the web is turning into garbage because of LLMs.
But that's not really true. It's just that the garbage is drowning out everything else, especially in search engines that themselves have decided to go into the garbage generation business.
What can we do? We can promote the #IndieWeb right here. Highlight the good, perhaps obscure websites and blogs you come across, especially the ones that aren't loaded with ads & trackers.
To that end, I'm going to try to get into the habit of sharing cool, perhaps lesser known websites and projects under the hashtag #WebMadeThis. Perhaps others will do so as well. <3
This is wicked cool web-based player for C64 music (8-bit #chiptune stuff). It takes a while to explore its features but I'm just blown away by the love & attention to detail behind it.
When I was a youngster in the late 1980s, I formed an Amiga game dev team with 2 friends.
Before making games, we started by trying to sell game music that used minimal RAM, made with our music editor SIDmon.
To promote our game music, this energetic music module was composed by our musician Ramon Braumuller. The file, including tiny sampled sounds, is only 22 kilobytes.
I'm interested in #art, #audio, #musicproduction and #gamedev among other things. Looking forward to see familiar and new faces here, feel free to ask anything!
Here's some progress on my tracker, I loaded up Cave Story's theme from an XM file. Cave Story also used a custom tracker for its music and that was a big inspiration for this project 😄
I also adjusted the volume to not blow up your speakers.
I have fond memories of the Sega Master System, my very first console. The theme from Phantasy Star by Tokuhiko Uwabo is one of this era's of Sega soundtracks that stands out, enjoy:
I finally finished my entirely-too-long write-up about all the audio work I've been doing for my game. If you're looking for some nice light reading this friday afternoon, take a look!
I go into a ton of detail of the code implementations, reasons behind my decisions, and a lot of history. This is the sort of #gamedev posts I got into these spaces hoping to write! I hope you enjoy!!
Shameless plug for #BandcampFriday: I released a new album about a month ago, consisting of #chiptune , #synthwave and #demoscene influenced tunes, created with a Dirtywave M8 :)
i wanted to make a rom file too for listening on hardware, but couldn't find a driver that eats VGM files that use the YM2612's CSM feature. maybe in the future when i have more time to look into it :)
My #GameBoy Day post earlier motivated me to organize my collection a bit. My favorite thing about #retrogaming is the community — in this picture I see the #DMG#ProSoundMod from an #LSDJ#chiptune workshop that Nikola Whallen gave at @AHA, a game prototype that Cat Graffam sent me at @makemagazine, and a cartridge holder that my @rebble pal PotatoFi designed! 🎮👪✨
