If you're of a certain age, you know Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around And Fell In Love" from 1975. Bryan Ferry (of Roxy Music fame) recorded a mellow synth-driven version a couple of years ago when he was 75 years old. His voice is still distinctive, despite having a few miles on it. You may enjoy this version. #BedtimeMusic

Want to have everyone who knows what they’re doing flip the bozo bit on you? Refer to reasonable preventative maintenance as “shotgun recapping” and go on about how you “diagnose failures” and try to keep everything possible “original.”

Those original capacitors will eat traces and vias before there’s a failure to diagnose, dumbass.

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@eschaton that seems overly optimistic thinking you can keep some. If the thing is old enough to need one replaced, they all need replacing

Star Wars toy sells for $525K.

  • Boba Fett action figure with “rocket-firing” action
  • 1 of only 2 surviving examples
  • Hand-painted version, never-released, deemed a choking hazard

Props to whoever had the foresight to save this all these years.

Got a Logitech ScanMan 32 handheld grayscale scanner for the Mac. I think it’s like the PC version but with an additional box to convert to SCSI.

I’ve never owned a handheld scanner before so this is going to be fun/awful. I want to try it with the

pixel,

@paulrickards if I recall the software would stitch side by side scans together so you could do a whole document. I think I had the serial or parallel version, not the SCSI

I don’t understand the outrage over #adobe’s EULA. The new terms are basic boilerplate. Anyone hosting content on the web has the same terms in their EULA.

Am I missing something? Or is this just another hoopla over nothing?

https://9to5mac.com/2024/06/06/change-to-adobe-terms-amp-conditions/

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@drahardja I think it stands out because they simplified it and made it short enough that people actually read it. Most of the time it's buried in a huge ToS.

One really frustrating part of my artwork is taking photos of them. Photos always come out so different than reality. Ideally I'd like to shoot it once and not have to do anything to it so as to not misrepresent the work.

Notice in the original picture from my iPhone, the paper itself is lighter in the middle and darker around the edges of the work. You'd expect the light source to be running top/down, but it's not. It left/right from above.

I'd rather not Photoshop everything (2nd pic)..

A picture of a pen plot of three groups of Truchet tiles in CMYK inks. This version has been Photoshoped to make the white paper background uniform in brightness.

Little BTS video from the  Archive: At WWDC 2010, they had a visualization showing the activity of the 50K most popular App Store apps.

As apps are downloaded, their data is coalesced via an XML feed every five minutes. That data is then passed to an OpenCL kernel, which drives the animation and drops the icon into a column in the grid based on icon color. Quartz Composer renders the final synchronized output.
