I've been using the Chromium browser for certain websites, and that's about to end.

Google's greed-fueled moves -- this time to disable vital extensions that provide better privacy and security -- are unacceptable to me.

The stakes here are quite high. If Google succeeds what it's attempting to do -- forcing us to use only Google-approved privacy and security choices -- we're in trouble.

Firefox looks like the best way forward at this point.

mics (machine identification code) are nearly invisible marks most printers add to anything they print, as a means of tracking where each peice of printed material was printed from - down to the exact printer. not model, the individual printer

it's allegedly to curb counterfeit money, but obviously it can be used to connect material you print for, say, activism or political stuff down to the exact printer you used. if you're going to bureau en gros to print, or if you used a printer you bought, it can be traced to you

@J12t mastodon is terrible for activism. it's public, or not encrypted, and not heavily scrutinized for security requirements.

use something encrypted, not federated (or restrict federation to trusted servers/instances), or peer to perr

briar, cwtch, matrix, xmpp, or signal are all better options.

bear in mind that activism is risky, and can be dangerous. your server admin is actually not likely to be competent to harden a server adequately to defend against a prepared adversary, and even if they were they might just cooperate with law enforcement anyway. they should be tantamount to an adversary themselves if they aren't a collaborator

don't tell a trans girl or nb person that they look like a male celebrity

don't say "you know what i mean" when someone tries to tell you what you said is ableist or whatever, or try to justify yourself

Honest question for white people that don't consider themselves racist:

White nationalists have been vocal about their attacks on DEI. These are literally the same people that talk about Charlottesville, Jan 6th, and ethnic cleansing.

They've laid out exactly how they plan to destroy DEI.

  1. Make false claims that DEI is about giving unqualified Black people an unfair advantage

  2. Work with racist politicians to use this as a pretext to make all DEI programs illegal.

One of the most annoying things about being an English-language content creator are the Americans who insist that everything must be about them.

I can make a video that never mentions the US once, and I will get hundreds of responses about the US.

I will get people claiming that I'm wrong because of some issue unique to the US.
