@RickiTarr especially since this isn't a yearly thing for him. On years in which he is not forced to sell stocks, he can take minimal salary and pay for his lifestyle using nothing but loans, which only lowers his tax burden.
Just saw an interesting post by someone missing the simplicity of their childhood. I know that most people wear rose coloured glasses when they’re feeling nostalgic, but I wonder how many autistic people read such posts & think, “No way!”?
I had lots of fun & interesting times during my childhood & adolescence, but there was also so much complexity, confusion & distress. Learning to mask made it easier. I could at least pretend to understand what was going on & therefore attract less negative attention. @actuallyautistic
my childhood was a mixture of me excelling at reading and writing while always getting in trouble for talking the same prolific way I wrote and read. Very confusing!
For me there are a few people who are usually equalizing, and I can just be around them, so I won't count that. But generally, I find about 3 times a week, I'm game for socializing. A day in between to rest is usually nice, but the larger the gathering or if we go somewhere particularly noisy or I'm meeting new people that involves more effort, and my social battery empties sooner. I'm very curious where everyone else falls on this!
@RickiTarr it honestly depends on the people. Some people are energizing, and some people are draining. I'm autistic, (only diagnosed in my 50s) with solid masking skills, and a lot of that depends on my ability to drop the autistic masking when I'm with people. If I feel safe enough to be myself, it can be nice to hang out. Like Joe said above, it takes time to prep and time to recover. Three times a week would definitely be too much.
The Epaulette shark is only about 9 million years old as a species, making it the most recent branch in the shark family. And it is slowly but surely evolving into a land animal!
"If I wasn't a libertarian before, I'm sure as hell a libertarian now," Donald Trump tells the Libertarian National Convention, saying this is because he's been indicted by the federal government 91 times.
"@ProPublica found that billionaire owners like Ballmer are consistently paying lower income tax rates than their millionaire players — and often lower even than the rates paid by the concessions workers who staff their stadiums."
NYT reports RFK Jr. had previously undisclosed health issues, including a parasite in his brain. “I have cognitive problems, clearly,” #RFKJr. said in the 2012 deposition. “I have short-term memory loss, and I have longer-term memory loss that affects me.” https://nytimes.com/2024/05/08/us/rfk-jr-brain-health-memory-loss.html
Previously in therapy I had mentioned believing I’m autistic and she was kind of like, “ehh I don’t know about that”. But today I brought up that I thought I may have been put on a weird no sugar diet as a child because they knew about my ADHD and without skipping a beat she says, “Oh yeah. Totally. That makes absolute sense. I agree”. So I’ll take that as an informal diagnosis lol
Media reports say Hunter Biden's attorneys have sent a letter to Fox News threatening an imminent lawsuit for allegedly defaming the president's son and unlawfully publishing “hacked” images.
"Here’s a Clever Way to Uncover America’s Voting Deserts:
Mathematicians are using topological abstractions to find places poorly served by polling stations."
Sure, this is clever. But you know what's even more clever? Eliminating polling places entirely and switching to 100% vote-by-mail like in Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Vermont, and Hawaii.
(With some in-person polling places as needed for accessibilty reasons)
@ahimsa_pdx@alan having two weeks to fill out a ballot, with my laptop at the ready to research the options, is amazing. Then, I head over to the dropbox down the street and my vote is counted within a few days. It's perfect.
@RickiTarr I was in a band with a guy like that back in the 90s. He lied about everything, big or small. I see now that he's one of those right wing professional liars who posts videos about CIA conspiracies and such. I do wonder if he's aware of his problem.

Jimmy is also #ActuallyAutistic which hits home a lot with me. I happen to be straight, but I have a deep empathy for anyone who navigates this world as part of non-normative class.
Most of this poll erosion of Biden has little to do with the propaganda coming from Fox News and everything to do with the constant drumbeat of negativity coming from the left. It’s the revenge of Bernie Sanders at the worst possible time. Wake up folks. Trump is an existential threat.
@shoq and it's self-boosting. If all you see are people too intimidated to voice support for Biden over Trump, we'll see a repeat of 2015 where people assumed the Left would come around and they just didn't. We need to be vocal about supporting Biden to save democracy.
The best argument in favor of abortion rights is that you can't force me to sustain your life against my will. Even if I had a rare blood type and I was the only human on earth who could save you, you can't force me to give you my blood. #uspol

Berkeley, an att'y:
I know that some time back when I sent a subpoena for phone records from a carrier (cannot recall which), and it advised me that the company's policy was to require a court order and not just a subpoena. That was an exception; subpoenas normally suffice.
Thankfully, most Dems are capable of grasping that an incumbent who advanced major pieces of his party’s agenda through a 50-50 Senate is gonna be the nominee and all this blather is a potentially damaging distraction from the task of beating the unhinged autocrat they’re running against. #Election2024
