Regarding the Microsoft AI spying thing:

Imagine it’s 2004 and we’ve just found out that Nokia (through a super secret network they’ve been building) intends to send all of the audio of all of your phone calls to the Nokia home office for analysis. Now imagine you’re boycotting Nokia for this policy, but still choose to call someone you don’t know has a Nokia phone, so even now your conversation is sent to the home office.

Of course that’s not okay. We would never have thought that was okay.

It just clicked in my brain. What I haven't been able to articulate about why I'm so anxious about #Windows Recall. I'm sure others have already gotten to where I am.

It's worse than "a system that tracks everything you do" and stores that info in a basic database that could be easily compromised.
It's worse than a nanny surveillance tool for companies to spy on their employees.

It's inescapable.

It doesn't matter if I make a dozen "how to disable recall" tutorials. The second YOUR data shows up on someone ELSE'S screen, it's in THEIR recall database.

It won't matter if you're a master #security expert specialist. You can't account for EVERY other computer you've ever interacted with. If a family member looks up an old email with your personal data in it, your data is now at risk.

If THEIR system is compromised YOUR data is at risk.

I just went from "vague feeling of unease" to "actively writing templates to canvas elected officials, regulators, and attorneys general."

We really live in the dumbest world. Yes, many meetings are run (and documented) badly. And you shouldn't go to them. No agenda, no attendance has been my baseline policy for a while.

But what is that guy trying to do? Get people to run better meetings? No. He just wants to build a machine that allows you to pretend you were there. Because even a "AI bot writes a summary" thing (which doesn't really work but well) does not include the faked presence. But he thinks he needs that. Why? What's the problem that guy is trying to solve? Who is he solving it for? And has he understood the actual problem?

Like many people hate meetings for (as I said above) often very good reasons. But meetings also serve other less tangible functions of building trust, understanding of one another, a feeling of belonging and shared values. All things that he's not even addressing.

This is the prototypical "let's just slap AI on" and it's painful to watch the amount of money and people's time we throw on those pointless activities.

Die #FDP mal wieder am Limit. In einem Papier, das Table Media vorliegt, fordert deren Bundestagsfraktion eine deutliche Einschränkung des Streikrechts. 72 Stunden Vorankündigungsfrist, 50% Notbetrieb, Schlichtungsvereinbarung etc. - so sieht der neoliberale Traum aus.

Wer bereit ist, dieses #Grundrecht zu fleddern, will die Beschäftigten mundtot machen und ihre Ansprüche abgebügeln. So nicht. Das #Streikrecht ist nicht verhandelbar!

Kurzer Reminder wegen erneutem #Jahrhunderthochwasser: Wir befinden uns noch voll im Band derjenigen Auswirkungen die mit einer weltweiten Erwärmung von +1,5°c als "beherrschbar" angesehen werden. Die Klimaschutzbemühungen die aktuell an den Tag gelegt werden lassen jedoch Erwärmungen von +3,5° oder mehr sehr wahrscheinlich werden. Glaubt nicht, dass dann noch irgendwelche Dämme was retten würden! #Klimakrise

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.
