Correct me, if I'm wrong, but doesn't that change the whole debate here? Only a small part of user base will do that. The majority doesn't know about the , and won't care.

Saw a post criticizing billionaires for not donating enough to climate change charities

I think this is wrongheaded (and not just for billionaires)

we should be judging everyone but especially business leaders (whether or not they are billionaires) for whether they are reshaping their businesses to make systemic changes at scale to address climate change

And this should be both by the business directly and by their supply chain and their customers and product lifecycle

If you want to fight climate change, go plastic.
If you want to protect the food chain from micro plastics, go paper.

What I find awful are plastic bags handed out in North American supermarkets. Their quality is terrible. What a waste.

I have plastic bags from Europe - flexible ones - that I've been using for many years. They charge you for them, but you get your money's worth.

Israel wasn't clever. They relied too much on their electronic wall; so when the Hamas turned off the data connections, Israeli defence was blind and deaf. Then Hamas went to kill over 1000 civilians and some 300 soldiers.

Everybody else knows that the first thing to target in a war is the enemy's communications and energy supply.

Now Israel is learning that from Hamas. An expensive lesson.

@thetyee It's not a loophole, it's basic contract law.

If you sign a contract with two people, both owe the full amount (usually). You can go after either person's assets if they owe you. If one of them pulls out, you shouldn't be forced to continue the contractual service but only have half (or maybe much less than half) the assets available.

Each of the two is a guarantor for the other one. You can't just remove guarantors from a contract and expect no changes.

    The English word "intelligence" has several distinct meanings. One is "information, news, a collection of information, data". That's the definition that fits "intelligence" as used in AI or in CIA.

    @brianklaas Access to legal #abortion was the biggest factor in reducing the #crime rate in the USA. With a lag of 1 generation, many predicted criminals just weren't born. So crime rates dropped.
    Other countries also abolished #lead in fuel, and they did not see the same drop in crime rates as the US; these countries either had access to abortion before, or still didn't offer it.

    @brianklaas Which other countries had a big drop in crime rates correlated to lead? The one study you linked that looks at the US and 37 European countries looks at personalities, not crime rates.

    I checked for Austria, which legalized abortion 1975 and abolished lead in fuel in 1993. Convictions dropped hugely around 1990.

    Looking at police statistics for 2004-2013 (1993+20), I see moderate drops in Austria excl Vienna but a moderate rise in Vienna. I don't see a lead effect. (My data is ltd)

    @GottaLaff Target would have had more than enough money to settle their debt in Canada and honourably withdraw from the market. Instead, management opted for bankcruptcy because it was cheaper for them to let others bear the cost.

    As for the reasons of their trouble, may I recommend my analysis from back when. You can run it through a translator.
