There is a window of difficulty in writing successful technical documentation for high level engineering management

  • nerdy enough that most of the relevant directors & VPs feel smart for understanding it

  • not so nerdy that more than one of them feel dumb for not understanding it

Unfortunately, this window is not always positive breadth.

Friend: mentions #PostScript the page description language

Me: writes a wall of text about save and restore operators

I have strong opinions about PostScript Level 1 memory management. This is probably the most imbalanced opinion-to-consequence ratio I have.

Also, the first edition of the Language Reference Manual says that “restore” should undo string changes but due to a bug it doesn’t.

The Second Edition just says it doesn’t undo string changes, so: ascended glitch.

Surprised myself (and the other linguists) by trouncing them all by 50+ points (I bowled a 150 and a 155 in two of my games, and none of them broke 100)

One of the weird things with the new space book is several responses have literally been "I don't like it because it doesn't share my optimism." Which is like... something you're supposed to think not say. But it is honestly my big worry with this book - that saying this exciting thing is way more complicated than usually believed will turn people off. But, as far as I can tell, that's where the facts lead, so shrug
