Big news: Kitsune Tail's Steam Next Fest demo is live now! Go get it at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1325260 and experience the first part of this queer furry love triangle wrapped in an SMB3 jacket

You should definitely check the options. There's a CRT shader in Kitsune Tails made by @JoshJers which isn't on by default (because people get upset by that kinda thing) but playing with it on is totally the recommended experience

And for those of you who have Steam Decks, we've verified it works on that, too! And there's a new reveal trailer, showing off some of the bosses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRBcm5fagUU

A friend just pointed out:

"ADHD creates impulse control issues and, consequently, advertising takes advantage of a disability. Ergo, ad blockers are assistive devices and interfering with their operation for commercial gain constitutes a willful violation of the ADA."

Let’s do this.

"We have built the tower of the heavens, gaze upon its glory"

ok bud, what's your tower made of?

"Simple! We can parse html, email, yaml, and we run 273 different unbounded reconciliation control loops designed to take unspecified distributed systems and converge them into an unknown maybe-good"

... uhhh, ok, I see I asked too big of a question. I see you mentioned html, how do you know you're parsing that correctly?

"Oh we don't, nobody does, we just give up and use BOOST::good_luck()"

Slack is crucial for scaling and for organizational health in general.

People with slack have headspace and time to improve things, to think ahead, to sweep out the corners, to prepare for what's coming next. And they will see these needs before management does.

"Running lean" eliminates slack. This only works for a while, and only if you have a flat org of highly self-actualized people who you give autonomy. And you'll still burn people out eventually.

cammerman,
@cammerman@mstdn.social avatar

If you take away both slack and autonomy, (I.e. "running lean" but with a stratified org) you get the worst of both worlds.

Laborers are expected to spend every billable moment working on work defined and prioritized by someone else. They are unable to use their intimate knowledge of the work to improve how things work, to prepare for what's next, to keep things tidy and safe, because none of this has "value" for management.

This is an org that will grind itself to powder before it succeeds.

Hey, Mastodon … I’m trying to track down an developer named Stephen A. Cronin.

He worked at and operated a software company called TapTech based out of Austin, Texas in the late 90s. I’ve managed to contact his former software partner, Francis Preve … but Francis lost touch with Stephen years ago.

Together they released a sequencer program for called NR404 and I’m hoping the source code still exists somewhere.

Boosts appreciated.

With any technology, we need to consider the harm it can do, and not just shove it into everything, and "move fast and break things" because sometimes what gets broken is the planet and the people.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

It comes up a lot as people are rightly confused, but if you wonder what problem Microsoft are trying to solve with Recall:

It isn't them being evil, it's business leaders who are middle aged and can't remember what they're doing driving decision making about which problems to solve.

A huge amount of business leaders are dudes who have no idea what the fuck is happening. This leads to the Recall feature.

Microsoft exists in and is driven by that bubble.

Well. This is interesting.

A new study found that autistic folks (well, mice models) develop PTSD brain structures significantly more eaaily than ballistic ones. That even comparatively minor stressors of the right type can cause this.

Huh.

What duck? @geeoharee Replying to @KHandozo we can't distinguish autistic behaviour from trauma because our current society produces no un-traumatised autistic people. 2:16 PM • 9/17/20

Microsoft's Brad Smith: In 2020, we unveiled what we called our carbon moonshot. That was before the explosion in artificial intelligence,

Translation: "In 2020 we unveiled what we thought was a greenwashing boost to our bottom line. That was before we saw the boost from AI."

As soon as we realize that everything a company says is a lie, it becomes much easier to see through.
