@jeffjarvis - I still feel that when the Biden-Harris ticket won in 2020, it was as important & vital a victory for the American Republic as Lincoln's victory in 1861.

There is still a job to do & democracy to fully restore, so 2024 will be just as vital, but @potus is doing a terrific job.

As many of you here, and as all of you who have met or worked with me, know, I am an Israeli.

I’m also a life long peace activist for Israel-Palestine.

Unfortunately, MANY of you have taken the last few days to attack me, call me a murderer, lecture me about the world I grew up and lived in for 35+ years of my life, dare to speak down to me and over me, erase my history and lifelong dedication for Palestinian rights, and even wished me to die.

Others of you have taken the opportunity to call me an antisemite, a race traitor, a horrible person, a hypocrite, a terrorist, and erase my history and lifelong dedication to Jewish life and making Israel a better place to live.

Yet, VERY FEW of you have asked how I am. How is my family? How are my friends? How are YOU?

Well, no. I have my family & friends in deep crisis. Many have lost their own other family and friends, parents, siblings, kids and lovers - some by bullets, others by fire, others by kidnapping. A comrade of mine lost his parents. An other had their 16 year old son taken into Gaza. Too many people I know or am connected to have been murdered or taken. And I use the word murder, not killed, because sleeping civilians in their home or at a party are not military combattants. Babies aren’t targets.

I also have Palestinian friends who have lost families in Gaza from the bombs currently falling from IDF planes. My heart aches for them too as theirs does for me.

But many of you only care about death when one side fits your own narrative and unformed and ignorant beliefs.

So no, I’m not OK. I’m not OK at all.

All in all, I’m disappointed in #ahsoka - a couple of great mid-season episodes do not compensate for a lackluster beginning and meh ending. A part of it is no one’s fault due to #RayStevenson ’s passing, but I was hoping we would get to spend hearty amount of time w/ him as a farewell not just him looking enigmatic. Otherwise, it felt as stuck as Sabine and Ahsoka stuck in a distant galaxy.

@beatnikprof - But on the other hand, if you are steeped in the @starwars lore of the 'Clone Wars' & 'Rebels' as I am 😉 😍 , it was a lovely continuation of the story. I love the "galaxy-building" of @starwars these days.

I just got a thrill alone seeing these beloved characters in live-action, for example! 🌈 Lothal looked amazing in live-action. 🌟 Also, I think they set it up to continue the storylines.

The Civil War never ended; it has continued by other means since Booth assassinated Lincoln. What happened in #jacksonville was just another skirmish in that Civil War. The Confederacy is alive and well, and its leaders - DeSantis, Trump, Musk - use every means at their disposal to oppress anyone not a Christian white male. And they have created an army of lone gunmen who are ready to lay down their lives for this dark cause. There is a direct line from Booth to this Jacksonville Jackass.

@beatnikprof - My hypothesis is that it is ALL being exacerbated by the fact that USA is changing. They know it too. By the middle of this century, America is projected to be a minority-majority/majority non-white country.

Trump, Bannon, Stephen Miller, @GOP ... They will do anything to stop & reverse this demographic timebomb (which I don't think they can or will). So, they resort to extreme measures. 😢

    @GottaLaff - Where once upon a time, Nixon could cynically play to the "silent majority" i.e. lip service to civil rights, but equally welcoming to segregationists and white nationalists fleeing the Democratic Party.

    Today, America is changing - diversifying - & quite rapidly now too. Change is terrifying! So, there is no time to be coy about these things. If you want to preserve the "white power structures", they're going to have to defend them. Aggressively & violently, if necessary.

    @LauraKT - Doing this is likely to be impossible because of the Good Friday Agreement.

    If they are so reckless, it could invite sanctions from EU-USA and possibly even Joint Authority over Northern Ireland. It further diminishes the rights of UK Nationals.

    @Deglassco - That is another extraordinary & informative thread. From White Supremacist "son of Dixie" sympathies to an early advocate of Civil Rights that almost split the Democratic Party ... I wonder what made him mellow & perform a complete 180? Maybe it was simply moral or religious conviction that persuaded him to do the right thing? 🤔

    There were a few incidents in WW2, in Australia & UK, that shocked the Allied nations in the American treatment of its black soldiers.

    @Deglassco - (2.) I wondered if the desegregation of the U.S. Armed Services, more than a decade before it happened in civil society was encouraged by the Allied scorn & appalled reaction of U.S. treatment of its black soldiers.

    For example, the U.S. sought to maintain segregation on British soil during the war & it was jarring to witness, especially when British (white) ladies began to fraternize with black troops who were often polite and charismatic.

    @Deglassco - It reminds me of another "Son of the South" Lyndon Johnson and how HUGE it may have been for him personally to sign the Civil Rights Act/Voting Rights Act in the 1960s.

    There is a scene in the film "Selma" when LBJ confronts Governor George Wallace about the path that could be taken in Democratic politics. There's a road you shouldn't take, and the road you must if the future is to be better than the past.

    To think that the state of Florida wants to teach how #Slavery was beneficial to black people! 😳

    The thing I always find remarkable is that so consistently, rather than see the absence of God or religion in the darkness of Slavery & racial oppression, the abolitionists & Civil Rights leaders held such firm religious beliefs & faith. Across generations.
