@Vrimj@mastodon.sandwich.net

It appears I owe people an introduction. I live in Seattle with a wife, a dog and a child who is now in Kindergarten. I wanted to be a marine biologist, graduated with a degree in geography and eventually went to law school. I have mapped sewer, rural electric coops and grocery stores. I have done floodplain management and emergency management. Now I do queer law which is like small town law but in a big city for a small community. I have a collegen disorder and disgraphia.

I’m interested in a lot of transit activism in N America but I swear people would think you’re a total weeb if you talk about transit in places with good transit. Trying to imagine talking to people in Singapore or Hong Kong or Seoul about.. loving trains

I think they would back tf away from me and run away.

Like my friend always says ‘I don’t want to be a transit fan. I just want great transit’

Apologies to the person in the F150 on the 401 earlier today, she thought I was flipping her the bird but it was directed at the anti-carbon-tax chuds on the overpass above us!!! 😳😓

Is the F150 lighting not available to you? It would be the option that tempted me if I were looking for a truck.

I would like to see a requirement that court staff not subject to appointment had to be hired though standard competitive channels in order to qualify for public compensation.

The FedSoc lock on Clerkships is shocking and needs to be stopped.

Look the corporate transparency act should just make it so that ownership that can't be determined by public records can't be enforced in court instead of having registration requirements.

AI is biased because reality is biased.

ML gives you a picture of the world as it is - or rather the subset of the world in its training data, the selection and labeling of which also introduces bias.

All ML can ever do, therefore, is reproduce existing biases; it does this automatically and by default.

ML can never be made unbiased because you would have to account for every structural inequality specifically. At that point you might as well just have a person do it.

@jztusk @tess

I replace ML or AI or LMM with "trained weasels" when I am doing legal risk assessments. It makes me ask better questions about who is training the weasels and how and do we really trust weasels to do that.

I am not an engineering anything but I keep getting confused about how people want to use these tools because it seems to me like the magic isn't that they are "smart" it is that they don't get board.

People who are convinced people will fuck it up if they get to make their own choices often have reached that conclusion from personal experience.

It is one of many reasons I think it is a bad idea to elect people who think that way in a democracy.

    I don't understand why brick and mortal clothing stores are dying. Am I the only person who wants to try things on before I buy them? Sizing for women's clothing is crafted entirely from lies. I just bought a size 8 top from a brand, which fit perfectly, and had to return a pair of size 2 pants from them because they were too big.

    The thing I have never been able to figure out about people who insist DEI is a waste of time is why they think people who are not interested in learning how to treat other humans they work with respectfully and in accordance with their wishes think those same people will somehow treat a faceless corporation respectfully and in accordance with its wishes.
