@Vrimj@mastodon.sandwich.net

It appears I owe people an introduction. I live in Seattle with a wife, a dog and a child who is now in Kindergarten. I wanted to be a marine biologist, graduated with a degree in geography and eventually went to law school. I have mapped sewer, rural electric coops and grocery stores. I have done floodplain management and emergency management. Now I do queer law which is like small town law but in a big city for a small community. I have a collegen disorder and disgraphia.

We noped out of Geek Girl in episode three. Stepmom is an employee side labor and employment attorney and doesn't even read the contracts at the elite modeling agency? Not gonna happen.

Like yeah you might not want your kids education interrupted but you are not going to pass up the opportunity to read those things and see what the terms are.

I am not sure how the Cowper's are receiving guests in a library that includes US Law books but it sure looks like that is what is going on...

I would like to see a requirement that court staff not subject to appointment had to be hired though standard competitive channels in order to qualify for public compensation.

The FedSoc lock on Clerkships is shocking and needs to be stopped.

People who are convinced people will fuck it up if they get to make their own choices often have reached that conclusion from personal experience.

It is one of many reasons I think it is a bad idea to elect people who think that way in a democracy.

Just a reminder for everyone because I had to go look up the cite again

The thing I have never been able to figure out about people who insist DEI is a waste of time is why they think people who are not interested in learning how to treat other humans they work with respectfully and in accordance with their wishes think those same people will somehow treat a faceless corporation respectfully and in accordance with its wishes.

I kind of want to start a queer housekeeping reading group.

Keeping your space up is one of the ways you can show yourself that your life is worth effort and I feel like that can kind of get lost and mixed up in a tale care of everyone else message in the usual resources.

I hope Satoshi Nakamoto is alive and has lost the passkeys to the genesis block.

Nothing possible in the current legal system as I know it would provide a better, more lasting punishment for the hubris.

Hey if you are on Seattle City Light and have baseboard heaters these things actually work pretty darn well. We got them full price and have been enjoying the thermal stability, but this is a really sweet discount that makes them about the same price as the bimetallic dial kind

I think ritual making is important.

As with art, singing, dancing or any other act of joy ritual is too important to be left only to professionals.

Professional guidance can make creating rituals less frustrating or more fun though.

I wish relieving suffering was as politically popular as "making the right people suffer" and I really wish I knew how to help make that true

So one of the handy relationship tools we have is "veto takes the wheel", in other word if you want make the decisions you also have to make the effort.

I hardly ever think about it because it is such a baseline assumption for us now, but man when I look at housekeeping type groups on Facebook I am reminded so much of how it isn't a universal thing.

Supporting people in their reproductive choices also means making it financially viable for people to raise children if they want to.

Kids do not belong to their parents but that means that the responsibility for kids is also shared.

Forced pregnancy, forced sterilization these are absolutely the biggest violations but making it impossible for people to raise kids is a violation too and I wish all the people who want grandkids would address that instead of pressuring their kids.

Marriage is the way to make someone who isn't part of your birth family your next of kin, there just in.not much else that creates legally recognized kinship so this is about how much that matters.

Vrimj, to random
@Vrimj@mastodon.sandwich.net avatar

There are only two ways to create legally recognized family in the USA. They are marriage and adoption.

When the state goes looking for who your next of kin is these are the only ways we currently have to change the answer from your birth family.

I do think there should be a process to legally recognize chosen family but that is just not the reality I deal with every day as a person who does law for queer people.

This is a decent response but it seems the best solution might be for Democratic women to marry each other, it does seem that it is the marriage most likely to result in happiness and a longer life for women.

It isn't a universal solution but I think the numbers pencil pretty well.

Today I almost told a total stranger he should end his engagement. I am still not sure I should have kept my mouth shut but saying anything would have been useless.

The person I REALLY want to tell to end it is his fiancé.
