The Last Rose of Summer is a true story about corruption in #cancer research. I discovered a cheap, plant-derived drug that could replace some much more toxic (but more lucrative) therapies. #BigPharma got involved and suppressed the research. Eventually I had to publish the story in thinly veiled fiction and survive a bunch of murder attempts.

"Mary Austin" is a pseudonym, as my publisher forced me to use one. So... hi, I'm "Mary." 🤷‍♀️

Actually Kathryn and James Murdoch are the rebels of the Murdoch family in that they fight against climate denial and all the other lies on Fox. And Kathryn is trying to use her media influence to create protopian fiction, the opposite of dystopia, because she also thinks there needs to be inspiring fiction about cooperation.

I'd just like to call special attention to the massive voter suppression that targets Arizona's Native population. The Native vote delivered Arizona for Biden in 2020, so the GOP doubled down on voter suppression targeting Native Americans. It's just like Stacey Abrams and Fair Fight in Georgia, except it doesn't seem to get as much attention. I think a lot of reporters understand urban voter suppression better than reservation injustices.

question: De-smellifying trash cans, specifically ones exclusively for litterbox waste?

I got some really good tight-sealing trash cans that control the smell very well, except they're SO well sealed that the inside is like...nuclear. Tried spraying one down on the inside with some Method cleaner and didn't seem to matter much. Airing it out with the windows open, also limited effect.

@SirTapTap They do make corn- and wheat- based, flushable litter. Or you could continue using clay but put the waste in thicker plastic poop bags before you throw them out. Either would help.

Tell me a silly/funny childhood story!

I'll start:

One time in Sunday School, the teacher was talking about the difference between humans and animals, and mentioned that Animals had Tails and humans didn't. I let her know this was not true, because my Dad had a tail, just in the front, instead of the back. The teacher was silent for several seconds, and tried to correct me in a church appropriate way, but I doubled down, and insisted that my little brothers also had front tails too. This got so heated that the teacher had to go get my parents to take me out of Sunday School.

I grew up out in the country, so we had rats and mice around and consequently cats.
My family came home one evening when I was a toddler to find our three cats torturing a mouse in the garage. I knew from Disney cartoons that mice spoke English and had clothes and families, so I decided to pick the mouse up to rescue it. Of course, the wild, pain-maddened animal bit me and I was very surprised to learn that this meant we now had to go to the emergency room and I had to have shots.

One thing I learned in medicine is that you do not dismiss what even one person says about their own body, let alone what hundreds of people are all saying.

The arrogance and wilful ignorance staggers me with many doctors and long Covid: even as millions of people say the same thing, and even as the research into the pathophysiology accumulates, doctors who refuse to learn anything throw it in the waste bin of a psych diagnosis.

We all know Trump is supposed to hold the stock for 6 months, but when has he ever done the proper thing? This is a worthwhile analysis of Trump's options right now.

Also:

"The large mismatch between stock price and stock value will sorely tempt the cash-poor Trump to sell off a significant portion of his shares, in a potential maneuver that I believe I am the first to label 'Trump and dump.'"

I think that's strong enough to trend eventually.
