I swear, having a Black president literally made America go insane.
When I think about how utterly wiiiiild everything is, I think, Hm, what was the catalyst? What was the thing that made half this country go completely bonkers?
"The most important thing we can do is funding a useless war instead of securing the border and reduce inflation. Ukraine is not even a member of NATO. We shouldn't be sending money to foreign countries to kill foreign people. Peace is what we need."
On our trip home this week, we just left Sacramento, barely avoided this one . And prior to that, a few days ago, there was a 4.7 quake the day after we left our previous stop. A few mos. ago, we were in Eureka for the 6+ quake. We’re jinxing my home state!
The White House plans to combine aid to Ukraine and Israel into one package in the hopes that such a pairing would increase the chance that Congress would approve aid to Ukraine despite growing opposition from House Republicans.
@BlackAzizAnansi If I were to delve into conspiracy theory, I would ask the question whether Netanyahu suppressed intel. I find it unconvincing that Mossad knew nothing about this coming.
NOW: Donald Trump has asked Judge Tanya Chutkan to dismiss his election subversion indictment in D.C. outright, arguing 'absolute presidential immunity' protects him from the allegations charged.

'Horrific Step Backwards': #Biden Admin Waives Protections to Speed Border Wall Construction
"Every acre of habitat left in the Rio Grande Valley is irreplaceable," said one advocate. "We can't afford to lose more of it to a useless, medieval wall."
Environmental protection advocates and immigrant rights campaigners expressed horror over a plan that will waive more than two dozen laws in order to expedite the construction of the U.S.-Mexico #border#wall.
@ElleGray you gotta put the kale in a big bowl with salt and oil and squeeze it. Softens it up and gets the bitter stuff out. Then add cheese and tomatoes and stuff.
"The whole world has to decide whether we want to stop Putin, or if we want to start the beginning of a world war. We can't change Putin. Russian society has lost the respect of the world. They elected him and re-elected him and raised a second Hitler."
@noelreports This was such an effective interview. Putin poses a clear and present danger to the West, and it's not theoretical. He seeks to destabilize us, and in the US, far-right Republican politicians and media figures are repeating his propaganda.
Ramaswamy, previewing his upcoming policy speech, said he plans to bypass Congress & shut down 5 federal agencies (FBI, ATF, DOE, NRC, USDA’s Food & Nutrition Services)
He cited the WV vs EPA case & believes his move would prevail 6-3 in the Supreme Court:
@w7voa As a non-Telsa EV owner who does road trips often, this article is factually correct and the negative experiences match my own on occasion, but I wish the lede was not halfway down the article. This is the most important part:
@Chron I love living and working in California (Sacramento), I've absolutely thrived in the last 10 years since I moved here.
Since I moved here my income has increased by 40%, I bought a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs with a pool, I've become financially stable and even have equity in my home, I've got a great job with a good work-life balance and great boss, I enjoy the outdoors often and stay as healthy as I can. I'm sure there's more I can think of but I won't bore you further! ;)
browsing around all the social-media apps to looking for real-time hurricane Idalia tracking. Twitter used to be the place, just too distressing to visit these days. Threads pretty well nothing. Bluesky isn’t terrible: 15 OK posts in the last hour. Masto only has hashtag search (at the moment), 7 #idalia posts in the last hour, higher quality than bsky.
Rodney King suffered a fractured skull and cheekbone after being beaten by 4 Los Angeles, CA police officers, who were charged with a number of offenses. Many Angelenos felt certain of a conviction. After all, there was irrefutable proof in the form of a video captured by George Holliday, then, blasted across the airwaves. Wrong! Not guilty!
@Deglassco@blackmastodon@BlackMastodon Thank you for this thread! I lived in Las Vegas at the time (I was a teenager) and a part of our city also experienced rioting and some businesses were burned. It was a very scary day. I didn't know a lot of these facts though.
