Stack Overflow announced that they are partnering with OpenAI, so I tried to delete my highest-rated answers.

Stack Overflow does not let you delete questions that have accepted answers and many upvotes because it would remove knowledge from the community.

So instead I changed my highest-rated answers to a protest message.

Within an hour mods had changed the questions back and suspended my account for 7 days.

But „AI“ is used to launder copyright so they can proprietarize what I only gave as free culture.

As always, domestic abuse is the flagship infosec threat model, the one where the victim has the least resources, the least recourse, where they're closest to immediate physical harm.

That this industry has failed at and mostly abandoned the idea of even pretending to try dealing with a threat model that's difficult and unprofitable and mostly hurts women is not news, but this new Windows Recall feature is next-level professional negligence.

Context: Microsoft considers it unproblematic that the new Recall in their OS takes screenshots every few seconds. They miss the sadly far too common domestic abuse threat model.

I'm old enough to remember how @creativecommons was founded as a way for independent creators to safely share their work and build upon each other.

In 2024, their take is now "billion dollar companies plagiarizing your art is fair use".

@nofollownoindex good luck — worse than the complex legal theory is that the cultural practice is even more complex, because things which are obvious fair use can be torn down by bogus complaints from powerful rightsholders.

More to reality: I took a video offline because someone claimed the proceeds from a cc by song I had used and youtube rejected my counter claim (so they wanted to add ads and give the money to someone who didn’t even create the song).

@scy this sounds like the lax vs. copyleft free software argument again.

Some people use lax licenses, because they want to allow all to benefit from their work. And then complain when those don’t give back.

Others use copyleft licenses, because they don’t want their work used to limit the freedom of others.

I am in the second group. I use cc by-sa, because I don’t want my creations used in works that prohibit modification and sharing.

AI enables proprietarization anyway.

Platforms can provide their offerings in a way that enables my tools to choose for me.

For personalization, platforms then don’t need information about me: they have to provide information about themselves.

Fixe Idee: Ich würde gerne eine Geschichte schreiben, in der alle Kämpfe durch Rückblenden beendet werden, in denen Leute vorher schon mit den Erreichbaren Personen auf der anderen Seite gesprochen haben und sich die Bewaffneten dadurch weigern zu kämpfen.

In der die Heldentaten von denen vollbracht werden, die Menschen versöhnen, Hass auflösen und Wege zum friedlichen Zusammenleben finden.

I did not want to use the github link in the package.

A simple #Emacs mode which shows the clocked time today in the modeline. It uses the time clocked in org-agenda-files. The main goal is to always see how much I already worked, so I see more easily whether it is time to stop. #orgmode #productivity
