@MarcelJan Hmm, I don’t change my tyres that often. I get more like 8,000 to 10,000km on GP4000/5000 before the wear dots completely disappear & they’re pretty bombproof. That said, they’re considerably more expensive than the regular Grand Prix tyres.
But this is one of the only times where the #YMMV hashtag is literally applicable 🙂
Ghost is getting a lot of buzz right now as a Substack alternative. Important to point out though that the hosted version is expensive unless you have scale and are already profitable. Sure you can run it on a rented web server, but most of us either don’t have the tech nous or the inclination to do that (I used to do this with RWW, so I have enough nous — I just don’t want to do it now). Anyway, this is why I have chosen to build an Eleventy website and use Buttondown for email. #YMMV
Annoyed by having to put #sudo in front on #dmesg[1]?
Then use this instead[2]:
$ journalctl -k
It should work if the user executing this is a member of the groups "systemd-journal", "adm", or "wheel".
[1] which is the case if CONFIG_SECURITY_DMESG_RESTRICT is turned on in your #Linux#kernel's .config – which #Fedora recently switched on, something many other distros did already a while ago.
[2] works for the common case, for some fancier stuff you might still need dmesg #LinuxKernel
But from the #YMMV department: I prefer the journalctl approach at lot. Sure, I'll have to teach my brain and fingers something new, but it'll be one thing less to configure and something that works on systems where it's not configured (e.g. right after install, other people's systems, …)
In this context, he takes apart the (outdated) concept of #alignment. Interestingly, he confirms my statements about the "good old days" (late 80s / 90s).
"Thou shall not enlarge that textbox. How DARE you edit long comments, thou mortal!"
There's a "distraction-free editing" button on the toolbar, but that's different than just enlarging in context. And it blows stuff up into monstrous proportion, huge font size.
€4,90 2nd class, for as many trains as you want - if they connect - if you reserve with DB
€5,90 1st class, for as many trains as you want - if they connect - if you reserve with DB
€3,00 1st or 2nd class with ÖBB - but you pay per train
So if you're taking 1 ICE - book seats with ÖBB. If you're taking two or more and they connect, book with DB
@partim@jon 74CZK is ~3EUR but yes, that's an important factor. The #ČD site allows you to choose a coach and seat by number, but it seems the #ÖBB site will only apply preferences (unless I'm missing something). #ymmv
Got the new version of #NeonAI installed on my #Mark2. Neon is just a touch too heavy for the hardware in the Mark2. I've heard you can upgrade the Pi to a model with more RAM and supposedly that makes a huge difference. If you can get a Pi. I'm hoping when they get around to a Pi 5 :raspberrypi: it'll keep close enough to the same form factor that it can be dropped into the Mark2. It would be really nice to give it a bit more oomph.
@ggiesen After running the beta channel for a few days, subjectively it feels faster, no solid numbers though. Keeping in mind that I have barely anything configured on this thing. I keep it really close to vanilla. I enable the #Mycroft wake word because it feels like I get fewer false activations than I do with #Neon, I change a couple small things about the UI, activate the GPT fallback skill, and that's about it. #YMMV.
So the few times I've been to the US - once to California (which admittedly is different, on vacation rather than work), once to Corpus Christi, once to Arkansas (near Memphis) - I found myself boggling at how much open asphalt there was between stores.
I wondered if it was just because they had the space to expand, so they just did. It didn't occur to me that there were minimum parking rules. It was always very easy to park. Everywhere looked sort of empty/unpopular.
@tldr@sarajw@selzero Even San Antonio did not…oh, never mind. You MUST drive or have transportation to/from the AT&T Center to see the NBA San Antonio Spurs or other events held on the property. Similar in other cities. #YMMV#ThisIsAmerica
I dunno if it's true that #Mastodon "is for Linux Users" but just anecdotally it seems there's a whole lot less blue checks & blue screens up in here #ymmv 🐘
got to admit #Microsoft has impressed me, not just by how easy it is to cancel a Microsoft365 subcription, but that immediate cancellation WITH A PRO-RATED REFUND is now an option.
this makes me much less hesitant to activate (pay for) Word on those rare occasions when I need it.
@tantramar
Fun fact: you can create #Word docs through the #OneDrive interface without needing to have a paid for service. Note the interface is strictly through the browser, but if that works, then that works. #YMMV
Public service announcement: If you watch John Wick 4 and you get to that song and, like Propellorheads' Spybreak was for the Matrrix, you're like "WTF IS THIS SONG??? TELL ME NOW!", it's by Justice from 2018 and it's called "Genesis".
