🆕 blog! “Why are there no viable nuclear power plants for the home?”
Whenever you talk about renewable energy, it's impossible to avoid a very particular strain of reply-guy. The "Nuclear is really good actually" dude is convinced that you have critically misunderstood Our-Lord-And-Saviour Uranium. Nukes are clean! They are cheap! They are s…
@Edent There are guys too who hijack threads and go on forever about hydrogen being better than every other sort of heating AND cooling than electric in all applications.
They say battery vehicles are dangerous and only hydrogen based ones are safe etc.
Hydrogen has its place in decarbonisation but you need to pick the correct use cases and not try to push it everywhere.
There is one person I've encountered here on Mastodon who is either a monomaniac or a paid troll.
@TruthSandwich Do you post this nonsensical crap just to bait people? Because that's #Trolling, dude. Hamas has existed since the 1980s. Palestinians have been slaughtered by Zionists, en masse, since 1948. You're ahistorical, #Troll.
A wonderfully open day without any meetings in the morning. I spent some good time tinkering with the #OCaml full-stack web framework that I mentioned before, and most of the rest of the morning in code review for one of our larger projects.
Wanted to continue focusing, but had already bumped my weekly meeting with my assistant yesterday, so had to take it. 30 minutes so well spent, just helping to sort distractions out.
Secret Santa buffet at the office! Fun and some delicious food, but this would be a great finalé to the December corporate socials in the Cape, tyvm.
I spent a fair amount of time recently in Python with proper type annotations and Pydantic checks. I'm increasingly unsure about how to feel about languages that are so general-purpose that anything from duck typing to pedantic type specs are supported (often through extensions rather than the language itself).
Kids are on their summer holiday, so I'll have to pull back a bit longer days in the study. One more week before I can also take my own proper break.
Missing contributions by @cpbotha, who got me into this logging thing 🙂 #troll
Every single poster I've seen responding to articles on Lemmy and kbin from this site have been shitty, angry little pricks with regressive takes on everything. We need to block these trolls before they ruin engagement from well-reasoned humans.
Re treatment of children/minors/youth @palestine
Fadi Quran:
Here’s a personal story about Palestinian child prisoners:
In 2012, I was arrested in Hebron while participating in a march to open Shuhada street, which was a main market street for Palestinians until the Israeli military shut it down, and made it for Israeli settlers only. It’s part of the area @JamaalBowmanNY
visited.
Handcuffed and blinded by pepper spray, and thrown in the back of an Israeli humvee after my head was slammed against it, the soldiers drive off. They suddenly stop, run out, and all I hear is a child screaming and crying.
So, there is a group of people on Mastodon that I have a lot of trouble relating to and understanding, that I somewhat lovingly call "The Misanthropes". They do a few things that boggle my mind a bit. The first is constantly announcing how they don't like humanity, and don't really want to be around people, which is okay, I guess, I can understand that, except you're doing it on SOCIAL media. If you just want to read articles, and look at pictures there are tons of better sources than social media, so why are you here? If you really hate all of humanity so much, you have the option in this one area to avoid it completely, why don't you?
Another thing is no matter what question I ask or how innocuous it is, someone will question the validity of why I'm asking it or the entire foundation of the question. So, why?! If you read a question and it doesn't apply to you or it doesn't interest you, don't interact with it, these aren't compulsory. Or I will ask What someone's favorite color is, and someone will say purple, they will tell that person that purple is traditionally the color of royalty, and ask them Why they are supporting the Monarchy, or if someone says yellow, they will let them know that yellow is hideous, and they shouldn't like it. Most of my questions are opinion or experience based, so the answer doesn't really matter, I am just trying to learn what people are like. What do you get out of making other people feel bad about themselves over basically unimportant things? Does it make you feel better about yourself or superior in some way? I really want to understand. Overall, most people are interesting and pleasant and just want to connect, what do you want?
@RickiTarr A former lifelong friend—now an anti-vax, crypto-loving, prepper conspiracist who recently dumped me for living in ‘clown world’ like a chump—admitted to trolling as an actual hobby. She’d make a drink after dinner, and spend hours happily replying to social media posts with the express intention of stirring shit up. Just a middle-aged, wealthy, white woman who found joy in making people mad or miserable, on purpose. I don’t miss her.
So the guy who bought this platform claiming he was saving free speech just sued an advocacy organization because it engaged in free speech critical of that guy and his management of the platform? Got it.
The Israeli state is starving the people of Gaza and I don’t know how to wrap my head around the horror of this.
I watched Asad do this to Syrians for years and it is a horrific way to die. People with diabetes will die first, in agony, and then children and the elderly.
New Term:
Troll Block - verb - demeaning comments at a target individual or group followed by an immediately blocking or canceling the target. #socialmedia #mastodon
This is a free world: some folks support Putin, others support Hamas, even troll around with ridiculous rationalizations to justify terrorism, terrorists are despicable humain beings.
