Oh my, it's wet and sticky snow.
Heavy to shovel in the morning.
The commute will be sloppy, get up early, clear all your windows, and allow extra time. You know there will be accidents! #DriveSafe#Snow#NovaScotia#NSStorm#Halifax#WAYCTV 🤣 glad I don't have to drive, but t have to shovel.
I should slow pace myself and do a little before bedtime. @capla Want some?
Have I got a deal for you? Take it all!
Come @tc_morekindness , it's time to sing our Sia song, and build a snowman or woman
Chicagoan here: If you’re not used to cold winters, here’s how to keep warm.
• Wear a stocking cap inside
• Make sure cracks around windows/doors are sealed. Use duct tape if you have to. It doesn't have to be pretty
• Use a heating pad
• Run your pjs through the dryer before you put them on before bed
• Keep your furnace temperature as low as you can stand it — it keeps the energy load low, so you don't tax the grid
• Drink hot beverages & eat soup
• Cover your feet
Lumi = snow
Hanki = full cover of snow, at least half a meter
Nietos = large & wide ,naturally piled snow
Kinos = smaller, localized piles of snow. If articifial, always this
Nuoska = malleable snow, you can make snowballs out of this
Tykky/tökkö = wind-packed snow
Hankikanto = melted and refrozen cover of snow which you can walk on
Räntä = sleet
Pyry = heavy snowfall in wind
Tuisku = ice crystals snowfall strong wind
Myräkkä = snowstorm
Looks like a chicken/egg problem on the I-80. Sanders are needed to get the road opened again, but there is too much traffic and they can't get in to sand the road so the road can reopen, but they need the sanders to reopen the road, but the sanders can't get through (ad infinitum). #DonnerPass#CAwx#snow#blizzard
My job is to make movement easier for the people on this road/driveway.
My job is to make movement easier for people in general.
Most plow drivers seem to be at #2 or #3. As a pedestrian, and winter cycling enthusiast (to be clear, I’m a supporter, not a participant, yet), I really wish more plow drivers and snow removal contractors were at #5.
Every time I go for a walk, I have to jump over places on the sidewalk where a contractor has carelessly thrown the snow from a driveway (thought - is this a bylaw infraction?). Not to mention all the times a sidewalk has been plowed, only to be filled in again by a street plow.
I’ll be back in the spring, complaining how all the winter crap from the streets gets pushed into bike lanes…
Conditions have improved for snowshoeing and skiing since Monday on Vancouver Island. My snowshoes are already by the door, all I need is to take some time off 😬 #SelfEmployed
We’re in another Winter Storm Warning for eastern #Nebraska with total #snow accumulations between 3 and 7 or so inches. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph, so there will be some drifting. Not looking forward to shoveling more snow, but it should light and fluffy, in contrast to the heavy, wet snow from earlier in the week.
Plenty of schools are closing tomorrow, making it the third #snowday this week since a winter storm came through earlier in the week. ❄️
Last night the bed collapsed under me. Fortunately, my godfather was able to fix it #today but I hardly slept for two or three hours last night. 🙈 Today I baked traditional #Christmas tarts. There is quite a lot of #snow here in Simpele. I heated a #sauna for my mother and I. #christmaseve#Joulu#finland#suomimastodon
Its done.
The Advent SAL is finally done, I love that its in the shape of a snowglobe!
The full pattern is available now from Climbing Goat Designs, its called Snowflakes and Stars.
In 2015, the big snow didn't begin until mid February. This was the state of our drive on March 15th of that year. And it carried on until April, until, in the end, we were walking in the tops of the trees, and on the low roofs of houses. All our bearings were lost if we ventured out.
Some people had to work out where to put all the snow.
This is our garden after the heavy snow fall yesterday. Look at the snow on the three pergolas. There is an alternating pattern of high and low snow on each segment of a pergola. And the same pattern repeats on each of them.
After our 2nd snowstorm of the week. Mind you this is with a bit of meltage between the two this week. Morning pics. Backyard photos taken through either the window or looking out through the back storm door. Front porch photo taken from an open door. We have approximately 18-19 inches of the white and fluffy.
I-80 remains closed at the Nevada state line and Colfax. Last night, we had a mass amount of vehicles stuck over Donner Summit and it took several hours for emergency personnel and tow trucks to reach motorists."
Do you have a story about when you saw snow for the first time?
Care to share it with us?
