You know what irks me the most about this change to pip behaviour in Debian. Linux is such a foot gun by design, you can do anything you want with usually no resistance or warning by the distro or kernel but this is where the line is drawn??
It's not like you couldn't have gone the other way and wrap system python packages into their venv.
Let people do unwise things, there are so many better defaults they could have chosen (redirect to local user with warning).
One reason without haven’t seen many #cmspapers here is because I have not really found any good post management/scheduling apps on #mastodon and #blsky. Does anyone have any #recommendations? Of course all (incl twitter, meta for linkedin) even more awesome. Can/will pay if it is ethical software
Everyone wonders why #Amazon's #recommendations#algorithm is so bad, but I will guarantee you that if they thought that making it good would make you buy more shit they'd have made it good by now.
I suspect that showing us the stuff we've already bought from them is a) actually effective or b) intentionally reminding us of all the shit we've bought from them like some kind of internal advertising.
Can someone please make a #AutoMaxResolution addon similar to #SponsorBlock that can be set to a default resolution or automagically selects the monitor / browser Window size or maybe one above as default instead?
Same with #YouTube's #Recommendations refusing to honor "don't show me this channel" being the reason why I refuse to login, as they provide me no added value compared to not being logged in...
My spouse is having shoulder replacement surgery and facing a long recovery over the dark winter. I thought it might be fun to learn how to play some kind of game together - a #BoardGame, or #VideoGame, even role-playing like D & D...maybe?
We've never done anything other than a few board games. I'd like it to be fun for two people (or more), relatively easy to get the hang of, and for video games, no gun violence.
Time for another #recommendations post: my existing raincoats are woefully inadequate for biking in the Amsterdam rain, which is much more, er, robust than American west coast drizzle (aka “sideways fog”). I need a hood, coverage of my thighs, and a style that is more towards the formal trench coat than technical sports clothing end of the spectrum. Suggestions?
#tsohost have suddenly announced that they are putting up annual #prices by a factor of between 5 and 10. As a poor #student with no #income, I cannot afford this!
#Recommendations anyone? I need basic features like #email but nothing fancy as my personal website #domain doesn't get a large number of visitors or emails.
Looking for more games like Pokemon TCG for Gameboy or Slay the Spire. Games that are in essence TCG but aren't caught up with simulating the gambling of opening packs.
My eyesight is getting shot by looking at a monitor for so many hours, both at work and off work, so Doc said to switch to analogue - if I have to read something, let it be books....
I could really do with something to keep a list of what vinyl I have.
I’ll probably just do a spreadsheet for the mo, but are there any open-source self-hosting recommendations please, or do I just build my own?
Also require: accessible via web browser on-the-move so easily used in a shop while browsing, and doesn’t give Google money or data. Extra points if it’ll log playlists as I gig.
Arvo, Toots! So, #scrapbooking, #photography, #FamilyHistory friends in Australia: I want to make a #PhotoBook for my Dad from this treasure trove of recently discovered photos. His #Alzheimers is progressing, and he’d enjoy a physical book. #recommendations for services? Ideas? I’m thinking photos of his grandparents, parents, significant events in his life, etc. Please boost. (Wasn’t he a beautiful kid?! That’s him, in his Dad’s army hat, circa 1942)
Good morning, mastodon! Well, it’s finally happened. The changes to Castro, and the fact that I need to go into individual podcast feeds and manually refresh them in order to show up in my inbox, finally made me reach my breaking point. It’s time to switch podcast players. Any #Accessible#Podcast client #Recommendations? Something that handles chapter support, and also gives me the ability to view episodes in an inbox fashion without having to download them until I’m ready to listen to them… Basically, Castro the way it used to be, would be preferred. I will settle for the closest I can get, though. Thanks in advance.
Are there any good "feminist" #anime out there? It doesn't necessarily have to have overt philosophically #feminist themes (but it def can), just anime that have well-written, well-rounded leading women characters.
A lot of the anime I consume has mostly hypersexualized women characters (I don't go out of my way for that, it seems like it's just kind of a staple of the medium). For instance, I really like shonens, but they can be super fan-servicey. I'd like to shake that up.
I know there are some great Miyazaki characters, but other than that, I'm not aware of many others. #Recommendations are very welcome.
EDIT: I wasn't expecting so many replies! 0.o Looks like there are some awesome recommendations here, thank you all so much! ❤️
US fire-season reminder to watch your indoor CO2 levels (get a monitor) and rig up a filtered fresh-air intake if you need to to get them below 1000-1200 if you can. Filters don’t remove CO2! You gotta ventilate.
(I know, it’s not always easy, but sometimes it is. I’m not above duct-taping an air filter into a partly opened window, myself.)
Made stuffed bell peppers with #ImpossibleBurger tonight and it turned out great! Cooking their 'fake' ground beef is so much like working with traditional ground beef, browns the same etc. I couldn't taste the difference in the final product. Saved the recipe for future use - expecting our #CSA box to continue to have abundance of peppers. 🤞
I'm finally coming to the conclusion that I'd like an #AirPurifier for the house with HEPA filter for COVID mitigations. I'm looking for recommendations, especially from my fellow #NewZealand dwellers, as that limits what I've got access to purchase.
I'm considering getting a new mouse because I'd like a couple of extra buttons for playing #Minecraft#VaultHunters and my head is spinning from all the different options. I just want a mouse, I don't want to have to learn about different grips and DPI and fecking RGB bits.
That said, I'm open to any #recommendations the fediverse may have for me 😁
Having spent a few hours catching up on allegations and how concerns and grievances have been handled by #Fosstodon admins so far I wonder if it's time for my first #FediMove to an instance more aligned with my values (and one that lets me emit the occasional toot in 🇩🇪).
Problem is, I don't know where to go 😓
My dream instance has always been chaos.social - any #recommendations for an #instance along similar lines?
Whew! Now that the hard part of moving my #blog over to #Wordpress is done, I have a #question for all the Wordpress admins out there: I'm looking for a #accessible#theme for my blog that will comply with #A11Y standards, looks good both on #desktop and #mobile screens and most importantly is #free Anyone got any #recommendations It would also help if the theme is compatible with #JetPack as I use that plugin to make it possible for #IAWriter to connect and let me publish straight to Wordpress.
TCG games that aren't P2W hellscapes or are single player experiences?
Looking for more games like Pokemon TCG for Gameboy or Slay the Spire. Games that are in essence TCG but aren't caught up with simulating the gambling of opening packs.
OC Can you recommend me a book?
