Here's a panoramic image I took from my back garden of last night's auroral display

No 2.5 hour road trip to witness an aurora last night. I slummed it in my back garden!

Boom. Not the best Space Station solar Transit ever, but I managed to spot this one from my garden. At the time the ISS was just over 1000km away from my location. This is a composite image

Just because I am taking a day off today, and am waiting to watch the Space Station cross the sun, here's a comparison between radiation levels you get when flying on an ATR 72 and an A320 Airbus. #radiation #NewZealand

This is quite interesting. (no... really!) I recently persuaded a colleague to take my pet Geiger counter from Dunedin to Apia via Auckland. The latitude dependency of the radiation exposure is fascinating!

There was so much amazing beauty in last weekend's aurora. Also some cool science. I believe the curved lines in the green aurora on the right hand side of this all sky image are called "auroral dunes" and are a rare phenomenon.

One of the truly remarkable things about "The Mother's Day Aurora" was that, here in New Zealand, we tend to see the aurora low in the southern sky. Not this time! This was the view looking NORTH at 7:58pm! The whole sky was green!

The coaltion of puritans rages on. We all knew Luxon had it in his wheel house but then Seymour and Winnie... well they've tossed their 'freedom' and 'libertarian' ways to the side. With an ease that suggested they never cared about freedom or the individual in the first place.

Tongan diaspora blasts PM Hu‘akavameiliku over leaked document supporting China against Australia, NZ over involvement in Solomon Islands (www.kanivatonga.co.nz)

The Prime Minister has been heavily criticised after documents from his government criticising Australia and New Zealand against China were leaked to media. The leaked document from Tonga’s Foreign Affairs Ministry shows that kingdom’s officials sharply criticised Australia and New Zealand’s response to the security pact...

I have just found another image from last weekend's auroral display. This was taken at 20:51:58 from Lake Aviemore, New Zealand. It shows one of the lovely aurora corona's seen on the night.

i just realised I took 15,000 images during last night's auroral display. Here's another one, this taken at 00:27 with an exposure of 2.5 seconds.

There are moments when you have to say, Mother nature is awesome. One such moment occurred at Lake Aviemore last night at 02:25:45. This is three five second exposures combined to make a panorama. WOW!

I may have slightly gone a bit batshit crazy when the sky did this at Lake Aviemore last night. This is a fisheye lens image during the height of the display. Seriously. WOAH!
