> I co-wrote a cookbook for depressed people and other folks with zero spoons, only knives. It's not meant to be gourmet cooking so much as a survival guide for late stage capitalism. And you can get it for free!
This is a #cookbook that belonged to a friend's grandmother.
When it came to me it was missing a spine, covered in sticky tape and had a few loose pages. He wanted it made sound without hiding the marks of his grandmother's use.
I kind of snookered myself by trying to do everything reversibly, so no pva against any original surfaces. We'll see how the paste holds up.
We thought about doing the half-binding in a matching deep blue, but we were adding decorative end papers. His grandmother's favourite colour was red and I had some paper with red and blue trees that felt fifties-ish, so red it is. Hope she would approve.
If any libraries want to carry The Sad Bastard Cookbook, put me in touch with them and we'll send them free copies. Libraries are vital community spaces and dramatically underfunded, plus being in libraries is literally my dream. #library#librarians#Cookbook
(Same goes for my novella Query, but the cookbook has gone viral so I feel like people are more likely to request a copy of that.)
"Ultimately, this is a #cookbook that really feels much more than just a book of recipes. It serves as a testimony to Nacamulli’s family story, and as general #Italian#Jewish history. There’s no shortage of unique recipes to try, along with familiar favorites that are impossible to resist. And, of course, we can all recognize that beautiful and important feeling of taking a bite of #food that connects us to something bigger, be it family, community, or history, which is really at the core here."
1 / 🧵 / An Everlasting Meal : Cooking with Economy and Grace / Tamar Adler
Do you have An Everlasting Meal : Cooking with Economy and Grace, by Tamar Adler? It is a must-have book for people who love to cook well but are on a budget. Isn't that all of us these days?
It is a book to read, rather then browse recipes. Many of her "inspirations" are embedded in the text, rather than formatted as "proper" recipes.
My copy is from 2012 but there are also very recent editions. Not surprising, as people are looking for more economical ways to eat. See the different covers (2012 vs 2023/4) in the pics.
This is my new favorite cook book and the Instant Pot is my new favorite kitchen appliance. I can't believe I haven't tried an instant pot before now. Just cooked dry beans in an hour instead of all the pre-soaking and cooking on the stove for three hours. The mushroom risotto in this cookbook may be the best thing I've ever made. #Cooking#InstantPot#Cookbook#Vegan
Special #Breakfast this Sunday morning. #MasalaOats from "Parsi" by Farokh Talati and South Indian #FilterCoffee with Oat Milk. The oats were fantastic and pretty easy to makee. Vegetarian but can be vegan without Ghee.
We are so excited to go through more #recipes in this book!
"Everything that Jake Cohen cooks is rooted in authenticity, from his #Jewish heritage to his personal #cooking style.
The 30-year-old chef and #cookbook author has built a massive online platform where he shares recipes related to his Jewish heritage, including meals for #Shabbat.
Cohen, who boasts over 1 million Instagram followers and 1.5 million on TikTok, often shares videos that elevate and modernize Jewish cooking. The New Yorker’s focus is providing accessible #recipes for home chefs looking for something that could be made for any occasion."
"#SustainableDiets have been around for ages, but an emerging #cookbook genre signals a new appetite for change.
In 2016, the term “#climatarian” entered the Cambridge Dictionary — referring to a person who bases their diet on the lowest possible carbon footprint. In 2020, a survey by the global market research company YouGov found that 1 in 5 U.S. millennials had changed their #diets to help the #climate."
Couldn't be prouder to announce the release of the PostgreSQL 16 Administration Cookbook! Massive thanks to my co-authors Gianni Ciolli, Boriss Mejías @tchorix, Vibhor Kumar and Simon Riggs, and Packt for a spectacular effort on a book that is bound to be a valuable resource for the #PostgreSQL community.
Hey, psssst! Does anyone care for some... fake roast venison? It's medieval! And super, super sweet! Aaand it is fancy - it brings it's own BLING! (I mean gilded almonds! Whoa!) And basically it's vegan, because it is a christian Lenten dish from the 1. printed German Cookbook from 1485. Have a look at it (and at my fail during cooking this. 😅). Experimental archaeology in action.
