Hey, psssst! Does anyone care for some... fake roast venison? It's medieval! And super, super sweet! Aaand it is fancy - it brings it's own BLING! (I mean gilded almonds! Whoa!) And basically it's vegan, because it is a christian Lenten dish from the 1. printed German Cookbook from 1485. Have a look at it (and at my fail during cooking this. 😅). Experimental archaeology in action.
I heard this author on the Splendid Table podcast and was inspired to buy his cookbook - first recipe I tried: Green Chile Cheeseburgers! I made a vegetarian version using Beyond meat and they turned out really good. Tip: Put thin layer of butter on burger buns & toast on a cast iron skillet. That way the outside stays squishy. #Cooking#Cookbook#Burgers
The #cookbook stood as a simple, spiral-bound revelation when Habib-Kirske’s mother, Madelain Farah, first #SelfPublished it in 1972, fulfilling orders by mail herself (with young Habib-Kirske’s help). Back then, #recipes for the likes of hummus, tabbouleh & ful imdammas (falafel) weren’t easy to find & “ #Lebanese#Cuisine” became a treasured underground classic to #cooks from #Lebanon, other parts of the #MiddleEast & far beyond.
