Morning run. Glorious morning, a little bite in the wind, but bright and dry. We took a route through the woods. and then over the old railway track and back via the Teviot.
8/4k, mainly tracks with half a k of road. I got back to see that it really has sprung. The Kats basking in the sun, and the rockette who has been up and about for a few days making one of her regular breakouts from the garden.
There are always unexpected delights to spending time at a different university: ideas, mental space, new people & places. In Cagliari 🇮🇹 , I have been lucky enough to find a home two years running with two companionable tortoises wandering around and living on the large terrace. Watching them munch after a day of teaching has been an unexpected, meditative delight. They are so ungainly & awkward, to my limited human eyes. Long may they wander this earth! #tortoise#academicLife#pets
"Good morning, friends. #Jeremy usually doesn't wake up until at least 10:00, so we'll start looking after chores. Somebody pointed out that he probably wasn't stolen, as at least one of the people would have an iPhone or be near an iPhone and we would receive an alert. 🤞🏻
I'm so grateful for all the support. I know y'all love him, too. We're lucky the weather is warm. He should be ok until we find him."
There was a lot of drama to this story in past hr or so. There was a FB post regarding somebody in a black Dodge truck who took #Jeremy. They tracked down who it was & where he'd been taken.
Located the 2nd person, who asked them to identify the #tortoise by shell damage (it's good, they were screening for the real owner) and it was him! The air tag had come off.
Jeremy was only delayed on his return home because he was...busy having relations with another tortoise? 😂😂
Happy birthday to Charles Darwin (1809-1882)! Today is Darwin Day to celebrate his birthday, science and evolution.
“The inhabitants believe that these animals are absolutely deaf; certainly they do not overhear a person walking closely behind them. I was always amused, when overtaking one of these great monsters as it was quietly pacing along, to see how suddenly,
I get to see Tortoise in 2 weeks! They've been on my radar for a long time but rarely venture south. Icing on the cake is opener Rich Ruth, whose latest record was mixed by Tortoise's John McEntire. Looking forward to an atmospheric night in Asheville.

I've always felt my spirit animal was a #tortoise for several years. I've owned 2 of them, and they both met untimely ends. However, that hasn't changed the way I feel about myself. So, I wrote about why I feel that way, and perhaps, in my mind, I've already lived as one! Here is my latest article on @medium Enjoy it for #free!
An assortment of some very adorable hedgehogs from illuminated manuscripts, mostly dating from the 14th and 15th c.
Snails and rabbits get a lot of attention, but personally I love the hedgehog. Especially the ones with stuff on their spines. #medievodons#medieval#medievalart#bestiary
