They've finally back down with an announcement that Ofcom won't use powers in the spy clause contained in the Online Safety Bill until it's 'technically feasible' to do so.
They've conceded that no current technology exists that would protect privacy or avoid breaking encryption.
Meta is proposing a paid option to opt-out of advertising on Instagram and Facebook. It's basically extortion to have your right to #privacy protected.
Ads can and should be delivered without resorting to illegal #surveillance that violates users' rights and exposes them to predatory or discriminatory advertising.
If #Meta can't conduct their business legally, that should be their problem to solve not ours.

The #nonprofit found that every major car brand fails to adhere to the most basic privacy and security standards in new internet-connected models, and all 25 of the brands Mozilla examined flunked the organization’s test. #Mozilla found brands including #BMW, #Ford, #Toyota, #Tesla, and #Subaru collect #data about drivers including race, facial expressions, weight, health information, and where you drive.
