Jeremy Skibicki, charged with four counts of first-degree murder, is believed to have left bodies of at least two victims in a landfill #mmiwg2s#redress
Protect Indigenous women. Protect Indigenous girls. Protect Two Spirit People.
May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for #MMIWG2S, and is a day to wear or display red dresses to remember those who have went missing or been murdered.
Indigenous women, girls and two spirit are murdered at 10x the rate of non-Indigenous folks. The majority are murdered by non-Indigenous men.
May 5th is #RedDressDay, a day to drive home awareness and action on the ongoing tragedy of #MMIWG2S. If you are unfamiliar with this read the AFN and the Inuit National Action Plans for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 Spirit.
Today is Red Dress Day, in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous people. In Canada, Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are six times more likely to be murdered than their non-Indigenous counterparts.
“However, nearly four years after the release of the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and two years following the release of the National Action Plan, only two of the 231 Calls for Justice have been implemented, while an implementation timeline has yet to be released.”
Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone’s mission to end violence against Native American women and girls
“There are 574 federally recognized tribes in this nation, and we all experience this epidemic,” Gladstone said. “This epidemic of hundreds, thousands of missing, murdered Indigenous women (MMIW), children, Two-Spirit relatives – the only people who have any authority to do anything do nothing.
The Federal government is now pledging to help Premier Wab Kinew search for the women in the landfill and to that I say remember it was private land, the owner has always been amenable, and there was no reason they could have not searched before. #Winnipeg#cdnpoli#Manitoba
And I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the owner at his own expense, closing down the landfill until a politician like Wab Kinew had the humanity to step up. They both deserve appreciation #Manitoba#MMIWG2S
🇨🇦 In a country trying to find truth and reconcile today, reconciliation cannot happen unless the landfill in #Winnipeg is searched. The debate is insulting and defeats any intentionality or slogans about #TruthAndReconciliation. Not one more #MMIWG2S person, they are not expendable. They are loved and those women need to go home.
Manitoba PC leader Heather Stefanson took out a full-page ad in the Winnipeg Free Press declaring she will never support the search of a local landfill for the remains of two Indigenous women believed murdered by an alleged serial killer.
The realities of #MMIW#MMIWG2S#MMIWG is disturbing. Especially when governments spend more on finding dead billionaires on the bottom of the ocean, but won't spend anything going into a landfill to find murdered #Indigenous Women...#JustSaying
Indigenous Woman Mika Westwolf Reportedly Killed By Driver Whose Kids Are Named Aryan And Nation
Twenty-two-year-old Mika Westwolf was walking to her home on the Flathead Reservation in Montana late at night in March when she was struck and killed by a driver who then allegedly left the scene.
Details quickly emerged suggesting an ideological element to the crash. The driver — identified by police as 28-year-old Sunny White — was with her young children, Aryan, 4, and Nation, 2.
Many in the community believe White is a white nationalist and that the crash was intentional.
The #Manitoba#Government refuses to search the #landfill that contains the remains of two #Indigenous#women who were left there by a serial killer, citing safety concerns. But in #Canada we have successfully searched landfills for human remains in the recent past. These are just a few of those stories:
