Today is Red Dress Day, in honour of missing and murdered Indigenous people. In Canada, Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people are six times more likely to be murdered than their non-Indigenous counterparts.
“However, nearly four years after the release of the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and two years following the release of the National Action Plan, only two of the 231 Calls for Justice have been implemented, while an implementation timeline has yet to be released.”

The Native Voices Anthology is now available for pre-order. It is coming out this summer. I’m one of 38 authors represented. My play “A Time For Dolls” will be included. It’s a coming of age story about a young Inuk and her mother.
Even while it gives land acknowledgments and takes Truth and Reconciliation Day off with pay, the Canadian government is actively invading foreign nations on the regular. The RCMP has always been used to terrorize Indigenous Peoples. It’s why the RCMP were formed in the first place. Reconciliation is not paramilitary occupation. #Reconciliation#Wetsuweten#Canada#IndigenousMastodon#RCMP#NativeMastodon#LandDefenders#Apartheid
“What's Fascism?" Momma let it go with too much caution. Stacey told them it is when you don't have any rights anymore. They all looked at Stacey in disbelief.
"You mean our boys went to kill people they never met for that? Hell, we got that here. No one kills for that here!" Kate pronounced the sentiments of everyone in the room. Stacey hadn't thought about this when studying World War I and World War II, but it was true. The essence of Fascism applied to them all right, except the forced labour part, but the exclusion of Indians from working in the outside world started to look to Stacey like the flip side of the same coin."

I’m a forager, and I teach people how to forage honourably. A few years ago, I was offering folks an educational walk to teach people what they could eat for free in the area, and some dude told me I shouldn’t forage as it was bad for the environment. Apparently Indigenous people’s traditional food gathering is why the environment is so shite now, and not the monocultures, factory farms, feedlots, and slaughterhouses. Riiiight. What a douche canoe. #FoodSovereignty#foraging#UrbanForaging#IndigenousMastodon#Indigenous

"Aue! My skin has great power if it can make babies cry and dogs growl! As an adult, I understand there were probably toxic & racist attitudes in play in both whare, but, as a child, I took on the deeply hurtful idea that my brown skin was to be feared." #Māori#Indigenous#IndigenousMastodon#Indigedon
