Anyone do solar+batteries?

I'm going down this road, considering Tesla Powerwall, third party solar.

Any advice?

The amount of electricity that the industry has produced globally peaked in 2006, but regrettably that wasn't the peak in regards to how much taxpayers have subsidized that industry.

If we instead used that money for and we would be a lot closer to the goal we all need to work towards just as fast as possible of living net-zero sustainably. https://world-nuclear.org/information-library/current-and-future-generation/nuclear-power-in-the-world-today.aspx

"#Batteries the biggest player again as renewable records smashed in #California, reach 156 pct of load

Last week battery storage became, for the first time, the largest supply source in the evening peak of what is one of the world’s largest grids. On Tuesday, it discharged more than 6 GW for the first time, providing up to a 25 per cent share of supply, and was the biggest provider on the grid for two hours."

Want some #verisimilitude for your post-apocalyptic story? Four years after the pandemic started, 7 out of 7 examined #battery-powered candles had burst batteries. 3 out of 7 had destroyed circuitry and were irreparable. I restored four of the candles to working order with a lot of cleaning and scrubbing, but of course they required fresh #batteries.

Takeaway: Nothing battery-powered left for four years will work when found. Much of it will be destroyed.

Bonus: Gasoline has a shelf life and may be useless in 6-12 months. Sorry, no verisimilitude in Mad Max.

's claims for their new solid state-battery technology are stunning. 1,200 km range (~745 miles) on a full charge. Lighter and less expensive than lithium-ion batteries. And the icing on the cake? 10 minutes or less to fully charge.

Vehicles with these should start in 2027. If this holds up, EVs will start being more convenient than traditional engines and could be in serious trouble.

Could the National Grid be making better use of the battery storage facilities already available in the UK?

It seems that at some points in the last year, even when there was battery-stored electricity available to be drawn down, the Grid still used gas-fired additional generation instead.

Its likely to have be caused by a lack of up-to-date computing infrastructure to manage supply during surges.

We have a net-zero friendly solution but are (still) not fully using it!

Remember: fossil fuel companies want people to focus on what uses so we don't talk about the supply side.

They benefit from spending time and energy bickering with one another about whether AI uses too much , whether to support more plants, whether we should mine more to have grid scale , and so forth.

That doesn't mean we can't talk about these things, but be where you spend your energy.
