Orchids Mosses & Ferns—or epiphytes are crucial for Earth’s #biodiversity and play essential roles in #forests around the world. Yet, even those are now under increasing threat via human caused disturbances.
#Researchers propose that a taste for #fermented morsels may have triggered a surprising jump in the growth rate of our ancestors' #brains.
In fact, a shift from a #RawDiet to one that included #food items already partially broken down by #microbes may have been a crucial event in our brain's #evolution, according to a perspective #study by evolutionary #neuroscientist Katherine Bryant of Aix-Marseille University in France and two US colleagues.

I have just seen two examples in the past hour where people tweeted screenshots that show the whole world where to find personal information of students in one case and protected health information in the second case.

>The fact that artificial intelligence can do much of the work makes a mockery of the process. It’s time to make it easier for scientists to ask for research funding.
Hello everyone 👋 ! We have been on Mastodon for a while but recently moved instances to hachyderm so wanted to provide an #introduction. We are an international organisation teaching foundational #coding and #DataScience skills to #researchers worldwide. We advocate for #OpenScience#OpenSource practices through workshops using our openly available lessons co-developed by our global community. More information: carpentries.org. Excited to be here; thank you for having us!
@stevesilberman . This is so sad for many reasons. Its effect on young #researchers, especially historically excluded #scientists, & the proliferation of #falsehoods, which is dangerous & just plain wrong, to give just 2 examples. On a personal note, I'm not a #scientist but am very interested in #neurology and #brain health. I connected w/ several on #Twitter/X and learned a lot from them. I miss those exchanges & opportunities to learn. I have tried to follow those who migrated to #Mastodon.
If you are a researcher working in the field of threat intelligence, always remember not to omit referencing the GitHub repositories from which you copy-pasted information for your paper. Failing to provide proper references is considered poor research practice.
Furthermore, merely copying and pasting the README without actually running or testing the software goes beyond bad research practice. Unfortunately, such papers are sometimes published by IEEE because there is no rigorous review process, and it appears that the publisher is primarily motivated by profit.
By the way, we also have a citation file that references an academic publication:
“The tech world is being dividing into 'GPU rich' and 'GPU poor.’”
“Patel and Nishball divide the tech industry into 2 main groups: The #GPUpoor and the #GPUrich." The GPU-poor are mostly #startups and #OpenSource#researchers who are struggling a limited supply of GPUs…”
