The unspoken fact about Chinese BEVs is that they are hyper-subsidized vehicles and are basically all sold at a (massive) loss. Even if we let them be sold in the West, China will outright run out of money before we hit the needed goals.

And we definitely won't let them be sold in the West without tariffs.

The problem with so many "climate activists" is that they are not interested in promoting serious climate solutions. They are either just cult members of BEVs or are some kind of neo-Luddite.

In practice, as they are explicitly choosing to not have solutions, they are effectively climate change deniers. Period.

Prediction: Neither Renault nor VW will have affordable BEV cars anytime soon. If anything, they will abandon this sector. Affordable BEVs basically aren’t possible without government massively subsidizing them.

Reminder that BEV fanatics are still stuck in the past. It's laughable they're still repeating the same outdated garbage from 2014. They still think batteries costs are dropping (just an illusion caused by China's subsidies), or that charging is somehow already solved (not even close).

In reality, BEVs are on their way out. It is already losing to PHEVs and hybrids now. Newer ideas like FCEVs will drive them entirely out of the market later.

@hopfgeist SAF is either just biofuels, which isn't green, or is a type of synfuel made from green hydrogen.

As for the plane in question, it is already flying. So unless there's more to the story, it isn't vaporware.

@hopfgeist A tiltrotor/VTOL is not that implausible. We already have something similar in the V-22 Osprey. So at the very least, it should be possible.

SSTs must solve the sonic boom problem and will need engines designed specifically for them. This will require billions of dollars at the minimum. Boom's problem is that they might not have the resources to even get close to a flying demonstrator.

@hopfgeist Then you are saying the same thing people said about wind, solar, batteries, etc. That they will "never be cost effective or practical."

In the long run, the price of fossil fuels will go to infinity. Meanwhile, renewable energy will never use up any resource. And if you think generally, about how you are just using wind, sunlight and water to make fuel, then it is simple enough to project that green hydrogen will cost next to nothing in the long run.

As copper prices surge, copper theft is becoming very common. BEV charging stations will need 24/7 surveillance or guards. This is similar to how gas stations work (someone is watching for gas thieves nearly all the time). People have underestimated how difficult it will be to effectively building out a charging network. You are letting valuable materials sit out there in the open.
