#NoFault #evictions like these — without any missed rent payments or damage to a unit — account for roughly 85% of the total in #BritishColumbia according to a 2023 #UBC study of the period between 2016 & 2021. During that interval, one-in-10 #BCrenters studied were #evicted.

These rates outpace the rest of #Canada in both total ousted #tenants & ones kicked out for no fault of their own.

... to my Keyboard! Thirty years old and still working well.

It is starting to show its age and the right Ctrl key no longer works. But it has outlasted a few computers and monitors so far.

I popped all the key caps off two years ago and gave them a thorough cleaning.

I was fortunate to find this keyboard in a computer junk pile at about 20 years ago.

Data sticker on the bottom of an IBM ModelM Keyboard. Manufacture date was December 8, 1993.

Kennesha Miswaggon is more than a university hockey player. She’s an inspiration.

The quiet fourth-year kinesiology student is a valuable member of the Thunderbirds, the University of British Columbia women’s hockey squad.

Her contributions are measured on and off the ice, at the university and at home in Cross Lake, Man., the main community of Picimikamak Cree Nation.

I love that there is a common international wireless network between post-secondary educational institutions called that I can hop onto.

It works using your institution’s credentials and it’s securely authenticated by your institution :) [Technically using 802.1x]

EdwinG, (edited )

@mpjgregoire According to Wikipedia, it was founded in 2002.

It had expanded to Canada in 2004 through . Since then, it has been made available to network members.

I know it was accessible to accounts since before 2017.

Edit: Improved phrasing.

Being watched sucks. Of all the parenting mistakes I've made, none haunt me more than the times my daughter caught me watching her while she was learning to do something, discovered she was being observed in a vulnerable moment, and abandoned her attempt:

Canada study debunks #stereotypes of #homeless people’s spending habits

"The widely held stereotype that people experiencing homelessness would be more likely to spend extra cash on drugs, alcohol and “temptation goods” has been upended by a study that found a majority used a $7,500 payment mostly on rent, food, housing, transit and clothes."

"pressure from advocacy groups to implement a universal basic income project that would help ease a cost-of-living crisis"

New study gave $7,500 to 50 unhoused people.

Guess what?

"They did not spend more money on alcohol or drugs, contrary to what people believe, and instead they spent the money on rent, food, housing, transit, furniture, a used car, clothes. It's entirely the opposite of what people think they're going to do with the money."

Congrats to my UBC colleague Jiaying Zhao on this study.
