Absolutely intense flooding in Dominican Republic yesterday. Don't think I've seen huge chunks of asphalt get torn up & flipped by a flood like that before.
"Somalia is currently experiencing what the United Nations has termed a “once-in-a-century” #flooding event, following a historic drought. This natural #disaster has uprooted hundreds of thousands of people not only in Somalia but also in neighboring East African countries.

"Italy’s disasters suggest the climate crisis is at the gates of Europe
(...) “Climate change is here and we are living the consequences. It isn’t some remote prospect, it is the new normal,” Paola Pino d’Astore, an expert at the Italian Society of Environmental Geology (SIGEA)"
Very good to see an article on #flooding risk in London. This is a really serious issue and one that we need to take very seriously, and all the more so if we have expensive scientific equipment in basements. For those saying "nah I'm upstairs so I'll be fine" you might ask the questions of where the main electrical incomer and all the switchgear, metering and fuses are. They may well be lower than you think. #climatechange
The Guardian article on the #NYC#rainfall#deluge and #flooding and the analysis on which it is based are okay, but entirely miss the key point - "with every degree (Celsius) of warming, the atmosphere can hold 7% more moisture"[1]. In greater #NY / #NJ the temperature is now about 2.2C over the 1900 - 2020 average [2]. This equates to the atmosphere holding 15.4% more water than average. No "rapid attribution study" necessary. It's simple atmospheric #physics.
Guardian - "Type of storm that drenched New York is up to 20% wetter due to #ClimateCrisis. Rapid attribution study finds storm 10-20% wetter after city experienced a month’s worth of rain in just a few hours on Friday"
1/2 The USGS maintains a system of flood gauges to, among other things, help forecast flood risk. Today's #NorEaster brings heavy rains on top of early snow into #NewEngland. The Black River in #Vermont has only one flood gauge (NOVS1) in North Springfield, far downstream where flooding has now closed Rt 100 and Rt 103 in Ludlow where last summer's big storm caused millions in damage.
From NWS Los Angeles: "Here are some details on our upcoming storm. Life threatening flooding, damaging winds and heavy mountain snow are coming. Many roads/freeways will be completely flooded. Many trees will be down. Power outages likely. There is still time to prepare" #CAwx#LosAngeles#flooding#rain
Not good. This is the main stem of the Winooski. Since records here began in 1912, it’s only gotten to this volume (15,600 cfs) 3 times, most recently 1936. We’re 1000 cfs and over 1 ft higher than 2011 (Irene).
#DanielSwain says there's a high potential for dangerous flash #flooding events on Sunday around the transverse ranges (and anywhere between bay area and southern border), very #windy near coast, in valley, the grapevine. Don't go up into or cross the before Monday, just don't.
