Preparing for my #SummerVacation#train trip: saying goodbye to my cat & my room; locked&loaded for 3 weeks in Croatia: the #beach & #DeGrowth conf in Zagreb & #LikaLodge after that… & hoping that #flooding has spared the train tracks in Germany, Austria, Slovenia…
For California weather watchers, that other place 🙄 has had quite a meltdown this week (rampant misinformation by "blue check" nobodies)... rumors, more rumors, angry and hurt meteorologists and scientists... more rumors.
While we can say confidence is increasing in widespread rain chances next week, we can't quite comment on how much precipitation we'll see, and exactly when it'll happen. Those details at this point in time are very uncertain. #CAwx
Key takeaway: If there's a legit reason to worry about next week's rain, we or another core NWS partner will let you know. Please be conscious of where your weather info is coming from and ensure it is a credible and professional source. #CAwx
Every spring, there are floods somewhere in North America. Maybe the Red River that flows up through North Dakota to Winnipeg and beyond. Maybe the winter snowpack is heavy and melts quickly in the Rockies, flooding out parts of B.C. Maybe torrential rains in Atlantic areas cause overland flooding throughout Quebec.
Much of #SantaBarbara and #Ventura Counties are at a "High" risk for excessive rainfall @NWSWPC
-- this mean there is a 70% risk of meeting flash flood rainfall conditions
❗️80% of flood-related DAMAGES and 40% of flood related FATALITIES occur during high risk days❗️
I regret to inform you that is neither hot chocolate nor coffee at Mission Street in Santa Barbara. #SantaBarbara#flooding#CAwx (image captured from Caltrans District 5)
Absolutely intense flooding in Dominican Republic yesterday. Don't think I've seen huge chunks of asphalt get torn up & flipped by a flood like that before.
Not good. This is the main stem of the Winooski. Since records here began in 1912, it’s only gotten to this volume (15,600 cfs) 3 times, most recently 1936. We’re 1000 cfs and over 1 ft higher than 2011 (Irene).
"Dear Brother, the Gasteinerfall in Salzburg was fabulous! It's amazing how muddy it was and how many rocks were going down the stream. I don't remember about being pelted by small rocks and mud in the guidebooks, and for some reason all the shops were closed. Highly recommend the mud waterfall here!" #PostcardsFromTheAnthropocene#flooding#Salzburg#Gasteinerfall#tourism
