Hi everyone. I'm going to share a new #introduction.
I'm a #nonbinary (they/them) movement journalist in my 40s, currently based in Central #Texas. From 2022 until today's layoffs, I was Digital Editor at the @TexasObserver. I've been a writer, journalist and editor since at least 2011, when I got my start on the primordial political blog Firedoglake. My involvement with the Occupy Wall Street movement helped make me a journo and I've always worn my bias on my sleeve.
Well, miracle of miracles, I have remembered it's Friday 🎉
The Friday dancers like to be topical when they can, but New Year is annoyingly on a Monday so they are celebrating the in-between days; reflecting on the past, anticipating the future.
#introduction toot to get things moving.
I’m a #trans mom working in #tech since I was 17 and do a whole lot of #rollerskate#dance in my spare time and love teaching it. If you’re in #Europe and go to the jams we may have met as I try to hit all the big ones.
I’ve worked on #AWS for so long it is my specialty and every new service just looks like several other services bundled together and it's rare I meet anyone using it well.
Also I’m so sick of working in tech and look forward to escaping into the forest.
Greetings, myth lovers! Join us for Monday's theme: #Dance! Which myths feature someone who dances or #dancing? In which myths do #dances play an important role? Use the hashtag #MythologyMonday for boosts!

Not all of us are trained or skilled as dancers on the stage, but in the dance of life, we have opportunity to move with strength, purpose, and meaning.
I have been tied up with work today, and have a few chores to go and do now, but I couldn't let the first year of our things.uk Mastodon instance go by without making a little something for it.
It's our tootiversary!
Lovely to be here, and thank you for making me so welcome 😊
You would think the view under the pier would always be sort of similar, waves and pier pilings. But not on this day. Came across an aerial silk dancer hanging from the enormous wood beams. It was so beautiful to watch and photograph her.
There's a photography technique I use that I never see anyone else do so it's time I share it. I use it to capture action shots of people... typically dancing.
Most people would handle these situations by zooming in, spraying and praying, or being exceedingly patient for that ONE shot to materialize.
Those strategies were too unreliable for me so I learned to move with my subjects.
I pre-focus the lens for a set distance, wide-angle, full manual, and set the camera against my cheek. I move the camera only by moving my feet. If my subject twists, I twist. If they step toward me, I step back so they stay in focus.
Because I’m not using any viewfinder, my peripheral vision is good. You immerse yourself in the scene. When it feels right you shoot blind. With practice, your shots will line up.
You obviously will need good balance and confident footwork for this. I'm reaching back on years of Shaolin Kung Fu. If you've done dance or martial arts, you can get the hang of this.
Yesterday I made a wee loop of some figures dancing by a river, & only realised after posting that I'd made a #RiverDance and should have, you know, done the proper dance.
