They do not understand the exquisite EXQUISITE tortures and pains we have plans to visit upon them (even though they are described in detail on page 1367 of the revised terms of service sent last week to replace the updated terms of service we sent the week before). Please -- PLEASE allow our trained representatives to describe them in VIVID detail in person!

Hey, collective intelligence, help me with a keyboard problem. Want to buy a Windows keyboard with the following:
Split ergonomic layout
Mechanical keys
TRUE backlit keys (all symbols lit up, not just outlined keys)
RGB nice, but not high up the list
Doesn't cost as much as a new PC.

This seems to be like finding a unicorn or bigfoot. Anybody got and suggestions or warnings? Please share.

Mastodon (and the Fediverse in general) still lacks raw numbers, but things are growing rapidly, and people here are more engaged (if not always in what you might want them to be). I'd rather spend energy trying to make a presence on a small but growing platform, than ride the biggest sinking ships to the bottom while locked in algorithmic steerage

It's important to kknow that #India's successful landing of the #Chandrayaan-3 mission isn't just a "me too." They're the first nation to land near the lunar poles, where water ice and other useful volatiles may be found. Which could be mined to provide rocket fuel and atmosphere for future habitats. The people who said "been there, done that" after the US and Russian landings (crewed and automated) in the 60s and 70s couldn't have been more wrong. This is exploration in its purest sense. #space

Fantastic news today that #IngramSpark, an on-demand publishing service and distributor used by many #IndieAuthors, is dropping their setup and revision fees as of May 1! I mean, this is great for those of us already using them, but I think it may be huge for #book #publishing as a whole. Link down the thread:

So I bought an LED shop light yesterday and I was just looking at the installation instructions and it says to install two ceiling hooks 44.08 inches apart. There are no #metric instructions. That bugged me, and I assumed it had been manufactured overseas in metric and would translated to a round metric number. It translates to... 111.963cm. WTF?! Even if you assume rounding errors, why 112cm? Not 100 or 120 or even 115? WHYISTHIS!

Loved its cameo appearance in "Tron." (I couldn't find a good version of the original clip, so here it is recreated in bad CGI of the scene built in Lego. That's a deep level of abstraction that I am forced to like.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vekR1tgKekE

I'm very happy with our vote-by-mail system here in Oregon. (I actually NEVER mail mine, it goes to a drive-through drop-box at my city hall, but that's what it's called.) I'm convinced its as safe, or more so, than alternate systems, and I love being able to sit down with my voter's pamphlet and spend as much time and research as needed to make thoughtful choices. And it gives access to EVERYBODY. Sorry GOP.

I remember these, but I don't remember seeing them by the time I worked at a Radio Shack for a bit in the late 70s. Looking it up, they were in the catalogs at least up until 1979. Maybe I was just more interested in other things (computers!) by then.

1/? So, now we know what happened to the Odysseus lander, and we have a couple incredible pictures to go with it, starting with this amazing action shot of the lander hitting hard and one of its landing legs shattering from the impact.

I guess Intuitive Machines, the company behind this, is taking a stock hit. But from what I can see, this was a minor (if very expensive) procedural glitch (in not enabling the laser) easily remedied on future flights, and that otherwise the hardware seems amazingly robust, and the team capable and fast on their feet. The NASA LIDAR fix attempt happened ON THE WAY DOWN during a single orbit, and that is some Apollo 13 level MacGyver-stuff right there. It ALMOST worked! AND they landed!
